::checks soul for residual shame::
Flash Gordon-1980 version. They don’t come any campier than this, but Timothy Dalton was yummy!
Soggy Bottom, USA-moonshine, some foolin’ around, a dog that farts. What’s not to like?
I *love * Fandango so much, that not only am I a fan, but an owner of a video.
" I’m not a weenie."
Great, great stuff.
I really like Slapshot and The Party Animal. Yes, thats right, The Party Animal.
I love this movie; nobody else has even heard of it. I own the DVD. (A favorite underutilized director: Bob Balaban.)
Last Boy Scout, Starship Troopers, and Six String Samurai are all kick-ass movies.
I think Mallrats is the funniest of Kevin Smith’s movies. Maybe it’s all the comic book references, or Jason Lee first playing the character type he’ll always be known for, or how it’s a bad tribute to John Hughes-style comedies of the '80s, but I enjoy the hell out of it, and I know it is often panned, even by Smith fanboys.
Hard Target was John Woo’s first American film, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme in a mullet with a bad Cajun accent. The story is set in New Orleans, my favorite city, where the villains (Lance Hendricksen and Arnold Vosloo) hunt homeless war veterans through the streets and bayous. But Chance Boudreaux (Van Damme) and his crazy drunk Cajun uncle, played by Wilford Brimley, bust up the operation but good. This movie has lots of John Woo’s signature Hong Kong touches, before he got tainted by Hollywood studio filmmaking.
Orgazmo was made by Trey Parker, the co-creator of South Park. He plays a Mormon martial arts expert who is tricked into becoming a porn star, and then uses an orgasm-inducing weapon to fight crime as the superhero Orgazmo! I love this movie more than I can say.
Transformers: The Movie is still my favorite animated film. The ultraviolence that garnered it a PG rating back in 1986, the heart-wrenching deaths of beloved characters, and the oh-so-'80s synths-and-hair bands soundtrack make TF: TM one of the great classics of all time. “You got the TOUCH! You got the POWER! YEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!”
Obligatory Joe v. the Volcano mention.
Wow. It is true. Everyone has something in common.
I had no idea it was DVD. off to check Amazon
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
Yes, I like it. It’s so bad and campy that it went all the way past bad and found good again.
There are a number of other people who did like it. Gary Larson drew a cartoon “Hell’s video store” where every movie to rent is Ishtar. In The Complete Far Side, he admits he hadn’t seen the film when he drew the cartoon, and he later saw it and liked it, and now wishes he could undraw the cartoon. Or something like that.
I liked Grease 2 better than Grease, myself.
Galaxy Quest. Does Tim Allen have Shatner nailed, or what?
Earth Girls Are Easy. I think it breaks the record for number of big names in a B movie
Mom and Dad Save the World. Yes, I know. I’m a sick woman. I can’t help it. Jon Lovitz cracks me up.
And, to date, I’m the only woman I know of who likes the three stooges.
Breakfast At Tiffany’s ranks in my lifetime top ten. I also have a soft spot for Paper Moon and Drop Dead Gorgeous.
Me too!!! I found it on DVD this weekend at WalMart and watched it as soon as I got home. All the while thinking to myself, “This gets cheesier everytime I watch it!” But I still get goosebumps during the tumbling sequence at the end. :o
Grease is also in the top 10 on my list… and Urban Cowboy, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, and Labyrinth are mixed in there somwhere as well.
I forgot to mention, in addition to Star Trek V, I also like Coyote Ugly, Keeping the Faith, a few Jennifer Lopez movies, and other assorted romantic comedies.
They’re all the same story with different actors and it’s obvious from the first five minutes what is going to happen in the end but I can’t help but love them.
I absolutly love Big Trouble in Little China, Clue, and Haunted Honeymoon & Time Bandits
Those are all terrible movies. You should all be ashamed.
Sidd (who secretly liked Starship Troopers, among others that would make your pal Sidd absolutely crimson with shame.)
Clean Slate with Dana Carvey. Dumb but still very very funny.
Quick Change with Bill Murray. Very underrated movie.
Mystery Men. Nowhere near as bad as the critics said.
I didn’t realize Keeping the Faith was a guilty pleasure, but I guess it is a romantic comedy, and I guess I do like it. I thought the leads (Stiller, Norton, and Elfman) had great chemistry together–they all really seemed like good friends. And it was a solid directorial debut for Ed Norton.
