Sort of along the same lines is If Looks Could Kill. It hasn’t been on in a while but it’s amusing.
You know, I keep forgetting that Hudson Hawk is supposed to be bad. It’s just such a fun movie. I would even apply the word romp to it.
The Fifth Element and Independence Day are also romps. Although Independence Day seems to be trying to take itself seriously.
Is Flash Gordon considered a bad movie? As romps go, it’s the rompiest. And it’s got a great sound track. I have to make sure I see it every few years.
The Puppet Master series
The Jack Deth series
Dollman
Isn’t that the one with the shaving cheese?
I’ll watch Stick-It any chance I get. (I follow Wei-Wei on Twitter)
Ice Pirates and Starcrash. The young Ron Perlman without five pounds of rubber on his face makes the first one, and the luscious Carolyn Munro in saran wrap makes the second. (The clip of Munro asking “But did they find the planet?” and then raising her eyebrows in a peculiar “was that good enough” expression never fails to make me laugh insanely.)
As I’ve recently mentioned in another thread, I really like the Lost In Space movie. I also honestly feel this way about Star Trek (2009). I also do not have any problem watching any of the non-Nolan Batman movies. I find them entertaining as hell.
If we included TV shows, I’d have quite a list. I just tend to find things entertaining as long as they aren’t boring, no matter how badly they are written. I don’t consciously turn my brain off, but I just have a much stronger suspension of disbelief than many people–strong enough to recover when I do notice something stupid, even.
I’m really hesitant to mention Thunder Road (1958) because it was well into my adulthood when I watched it again with my teenage son on a Sunday morning program dealing with old movies. Before it got going I told my son how it had been the pacesetter for all the successful car-chase movies like Bullitt, The French Connection, and others of that genre.
But as it progressed I became more and more aware of how cheesy it was. Photography, acting, stunts, you name it. It’s a perfect example of the old idea of “you can’t go home again.”
Even so, I can recall with some measure of pride that I saw it when it was a real thriller and the standard for derring-do in cars that took a decade or longer to improve on.
The review I have linked to supports the idea that despite its low-budget look, it really is worth watching – if you can pretend you’ve never seen the better ones that have followed it.
That one, too. For all its weak spots, it’s worth watching.
Super Mario Bros.
It has nothing to do with Mario. I LOVE Mario. I have Luigi’s Mansion playing on my 3DS in the background as I type this. I always dreamed of making a computer animated show based on the Mario games. It would no doubt be better than the movie… if I had the capabilities of showing people how I imagine it in my head. I could go on and on about how I think Mario’s story could be told…
despite that, the movie is fun to watch. I still enjoy it.
I love Bob&Carol&Ted&Alice. Natalie Wood was at the height of her sexiness is my only excuse.
Con Air
The original Vanishing Point is pretty cool too.
Yeah, especially for the pseudo-mystical overtones. Gas and gurus, what a combination. And naked biker chicks. And Charlotte Rampling playing the vanishing hitchhiker (cut from most original US releases).
Kowalski!
Overboard. “Let me pitch you this movie. This guy gets screwed over and wants revenge, so he kidnaps, enslaves, and sexually exploits this woman who has a head injury. What? No, it’s not along the lines of Last House on the Left - it’s a romantic comedy!”
And yet, if it’s on, I’ll watch it happily and totally buy in to its intended sweetness.
Kull the Conqueror (1997), a sort of Conan the Barbarian type costume nonsense. I will watch any movie where they dress up funny, or live in different times. This one has my lifelong crush, Kevin Sorbo, as the star, so I feel compelled to watch it now and then.
Barbarella and Diabolik, because I also have a crush on the late John Phillip Law. I don’t know if these two movies are considered ‘bad’ or not (I think they’re bad).
Good choice.
Twister
Armageddon
Conan the Barbarian (yes, the original with Schwarzenegger. I think it fits the OP perfectly).
The War of the Worlds (Tom Cruise version). But I turn it off when Criuse is walking along the empty streets carrying his daughter approaching his ex in-law’s house. Makes for a better ending.
Dunno, but Flesh Gordon was outrageously funny! ![]()
Sorry UC, but I loathe that movie with a passion I can’t adequately convey.
