Movies you walked out of

I do not walk out on very many movies. I seem to suffer til the end and then wish I had left earlier.

But Leaving Las Vegas was so bad I suggested to my date that we leave about a third of the way thru. While leaving we were talking about how bad that movie was and how depressing. After talking to some friends who suffered til the end of it, I am glad I walked out it seems it didn’t get any better. I go to movies to be entertained not to suffer through some delusional guy’s asinine death wish.

I have a few I wished I had walked out on. Gladiator. What! you may say that movie was a major movie, everyone loved it. Well, I didn’t. I was only there because a friend really wanted to see it and the movie I wanted to see was not showing at a convenient time (you know how it is, too late to go to see it, too long to wait til next showing).

Another is American Beauty. I found this movie sophomoric, but since I went with a friend whose birthday it was and she picked the movies, I was forced to watch this icky flick all of the way thru.

So what movies have you walked out of, or really wished you had of.

Movies I DID walk out of:

Tank Girl…I even left during the obligatory nude scene…that’s how bad this movie was.
It Could Happen to You…with Nicholas Cage, Bridget Fonda, and Rosie Perez. Otherwise known as Cop Gives Waitress $2 Million Tip

I wish I’d have walked out of Hannibal. Nah…then I couldn’t have made fun of it.

Well, I wouldn’t walk out on a flick because I find its subject-matter depressing or disturbing. Some of my favourite movies are depressing as can be, but they’re still great movies.

But I have wanted to walk out of just plain bad movies. I was dragged to see The Faculty by a friend, and boy did I want to leave that one. However, we were the only ones in the theater (big surprise), so we just made fun of it for the duration. Why-o-why couldn’t they ever say “teachers”, or anything that wasn’t name dropping?
“I think there’s something wrong with the faculty.”
“The faculty?”
“Yes, the faculty!”
Arghh…

I almost walked out on Magnolia. I should have. It would have given me two hours of my life back if I had left 1/3 of the way through. What a boringly predictable movie!
Superdud: I don’t think Tank Girl had a nude scene. I thought the movie was fun, but it was not as good as I was expecting after reading the comic books.

Superdude! Sorry, I didn’t mean to misspell your name.

I wanted to walk out of Moulin Rouge but my date also happened to be my ride.

I would have walked out of Magnolia if I had seen it in the theatre, as well as Virgin Suicides.

I too wish I had walked out on Magnolia… what a waste of space.

We did “walk” (ok drive, since it was the drive in) out of the latest Crocodile Dundee movie last week.

And when we rented “Cabin Boy”, we actually watched the whole thing (although that was more of an exercise in masochism than anything).

I walked out of “Scent of a Woman” when I saw it in Germany. I didn’t know at the time that the Germans dubbed their films instead of subtitling them. The guys at the ticket counter did not know enough German to give me my money back.

Gosh darn mountebanks!

I have walked out of three movies.

Supergirl
Henry and June
Boogie Nights
I don’t regret any of these and have never finished them.

I was talking to Mrs. CG about this very topic the other day. I walked out of “Bugsy”, and actually fell asleep during “The Man With One Red Shoe” and “Ice Pirates”. I think William Shatner was in “Ice Pirates”, if that jogs anyone’s memory.

I have a low tolerance for movie boredom. I’ve been to very few movies where I have not thought to myself, “You know, if I hadn’t paid $8.50 to get in here, I’d be out playing video games in the lobby” at about the hour and ten minute point. I guess the fact that I hardly ever do actually walk out just goes to prove that I am a cheap bastard.

I walked out of Under Suspicion. Just stopped caring whether he did it or not. I’ve since seen it on video, and it’s not bad.

I also walked out of Me, Myself and Irene because I found the scene where he breastfeeds from a stranger a bit too much to take. Probably in a different mood I could’ve handled it.

We should have a subthread about videos you’ve never got to the end of.

I’ve walked out of one movie: The People Under the Stairs. My college roommate and I went to see it on campus for $2 each one weekend. We were the only people there. When we left partway through it, we knocked on the projectionist’s door to let him know we were leaving. He thanked us.

I have never, ever walked out of a movie in the cinema.

[sub]P.S. Leaving Las Vegas is depressing, but it’s an excellent depressing movie.[/sub]

Showgirls
Transylvania 6-5000
(with Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley, Jr. - horrible shite)
Alan Quartermain and the Lost City of Gold or something - it had Richard Chamberlain in it, IIRC
Romance (mortifyingly unerotic French film that got one good review in the world - the one I read)

The only movie I’ve ever walked out of was “See Spot Run”. God, that movie was terrible. It was so bad I really can’t express it in words.
I would have walked out of “Baby Boy” but I’m totally in love with the guy who took me to it

I haven’t ever walked out of a movie either. I am always under the delusion that at some point they will get better.

They never do.

However, I did nod off several times during The Matrix. I did the same thing during The Haunting. Both were incredibly dull. I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

I watched Traffic this past weekend on pay-per-view, and believe me, that is one movie I definitely would have walked out of if I hadn’t been in my own den.

Actually, I did get up and go to bed before the end, as I was about to fall asleep during that one, too.

Well, I took my time going to the ladies room, freshening up my lipstick, throroughly washing my hands, and then walking around the lobby before returning to the theater to see “Independence Day” and “The Matrix.” [sigh] The plot of “The Matrix” had potential, but it’s execution was so poor it really was quite disappointing. Otherwise, I found these films to be predictable pap smothered in poor to non-existent character development, logical fallacies, and special effects, but like someone horrified by the sight of a disaster, I couldn’t help but stay until the end, hoping to see some sign of life. I’m sure there must be other films, but I can’t remember them right now.

CABIN BOY!!!
WHY OH WHY WAS THIS FILM MADE???

I walked out of:

Bram Stoker’s Dracula jesus, don’t get me started

and

Inspector Gadget

I’ve never walked out of a movie, but I saw many people walk out of The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover. Great movie, but too intense for some.
