Did you mean Unfrosted? It was made by Seinfeld.
A blast from the past - I watched Pocketful of Miracles the other night (either Netflix or Prime - don’t recall.) Since it was made in 1961, all the performers were soooooooo young looking. It was entertaining enough, despite the tired plot device of pretending-to-be-someone-different-to-cover-up-a-lie. I couldn’t help but think that if someone remade it today, it might not have as many hokey “twists”, but for what it was, I was entertained.
Yeah.
Blazing Fists
Mediocre with good moments.
Takashi Miike film from 2025. Two guys get out of juvenile- detention and share a goal of making and winning major fighting championship, called Blue Warriors. They work, overcome challenges, and in the end, the event itself occurs.
It was OK. It was 2 hours, but this is a 90 minute film. Competently directed, but nothing too stellar here.
Some of the fights are good fun, though.
Does this make you current on every Takashi Miike film?
Have I seen them all? Not even close.
I’ve seen, according to Letterboxd, 18 Miike films.

The last movie directed by Frank Capra and the film debut of Ann-Margret. I haven’t seen it in years but have fond memories of it.
It’s old-fashioned “Capra-corn” with a notable cast of screen stars popular at the time. I’ve always respected the glamorous Bette Davis’s willingness to make herself look frumpy for a good role!
Just finished Edward Scissorhands for the first time in decades. I must say it is an excellent film, and I got emotional in a few scenes. I’m also surprised that Vincent Price is barely in the movie. I recall him having more of a role in it. Also, for my first several watches in the day I was all about Winona Ryder, but today, I’d totally go for Dianne Wiest.
We watched The Ballad of Wallis Island last night (Amazon Prime). It’s a sweet little British comedy/drama about an eccentric widower (and lottery winner) who brings the two members of a broken up folk duo to the remote island he lives on for a private concert. It’s quirky with excellent performances all around, sweet but not saccharine. I quite enjoyed it - it’s a well-written character study about moving on with your life after loss. Recommended if you are in the mood for a quiet film with good performances and lots of chuckles throughout.
The Luckiest Man in America (2022) on Hulu
About the first contestant on a game show to break $100,000 on a game show. It takes place almost entirely on the day of taping as the producers frantically try to figure out what the hell is going on and who they can blame it on. Wait until after you watch the movie to look up the main character on Wikipedia. There is a lot more to his story, but that’s really not what this film is about.
My wife and I watched Dead of Winter today.
Very nice cinematography, very tense, story a bit unbelievable. We both liked it.
Today was sequel Sunday. I watched Nobody 2 and M3gan 2.0. Both were excellent. I will say M3gan was awesome. It was not at all what I expected, and I would love to see more. Not sure they’ll do another one, but I’d rather have M3gan 3 than another Scary Movie or Halloween, etc.
Last night I watched The Perfect Neighbor (2025), an Oscar nominated documentary about the case in Ocala, FL where a lady who was continually calling the cops regarding children playing next to her apartment, and who ultimately shot and killed a mother of one of the children when she knocked on her door. She claimed, as usual, that she was in fear for her life and falling back on the whole ‘stand your ground’ bullshit. The detectives pretty much cracked the case from her 911 calls where she claimed all this crazy shit happened which was impossible in the time span she described. At any rate, the crazy lady ends up going to prison for 25 years for manslaughter.
None of that is really spoilers, as the case was fairly well publicized when it happened. Here’s the the thing, though … there is practically no “film-making” in this film. It is all just curated and edited clips and snippets mostly from police body cams. There is no narration, there are no captions, there is a hint of a score during a couple of scenes, but that’s it. It watches like an episode of Cops. None of that is to say that it isn’t a compelling watch about a horrible case but I cannot fathom why it was up for an Oscar. It is pretty art-less.
Rewatched “A Simple Plan” with Billy Bob, Bill Paxson and Bridget Fonda. It holds up well for something that seems to be trying to be a Coen Brothers movie.
Dumplings
Hmmm…only recommended if you can take it.
This is not a horror movie, but I’ll go ahead and tell you the premise and I think you’ll see why it is such a difficult film to watch:
A woman uses aborted fetuses to create dumplings that help de-age people who eat them. Lots of scenes of abortion(s) and dicing, cutting, and preparing foods with them.
It’s weird. It’s not as extreme as my description makes it sound, but pushes the edges enough to make feel a bit ill at some points.
All in all, it is a pretty interesting movie. It was made in 2004 and seen as a critique of the one-child policy in mainland China(film is Hong Kong). I don’t personally see it that way.
Not a shock movie made just to shock. Troma has probably done stuff like this just to shock. This was a real movie. Pretty interseting.
Watched Sorcerer and the original Wages Of Fear back to back this weekend. Both well worth a re-watch if you haven’t seen them recently. I passed on watching the 2024 remake though, from the reviews it seems to be a stinker.
Just watched Train Dreams, and I’m glad I read all the positive reviews here, because I might not have watched it otherwise. A wonderful film.

I think the “curation” of those clips was very well done. They told a coherent story by themselves. I think it might have suffered if it had had more heavy handed “zhoozhing” for lack of a better term. It was tense and emotionalas it was.
Blast from the Past (1999)
I’ve never actually seen this movie before. 35 year old raised in a fallout shelter meets the modern (1990s) world. Sweeter than it is funny, but still enjoyable. Brendan Frazier and Alicia Silverstone make a great romcom couple and Dave Foley is fun as the best friend. Sissy Spacek and Cristopher Walken are also good.
Dude. That is frickin’ crazy! I literally just watched that with my parents tonight. We just finished it about ten minutes ago.
Weird.
I stumble upon it randomly on YouTube Premium.
