I’m about to buy a lower end (but not terrible) queen size mattress. No box spring. Has anyone tried to stuff one into a minivan after removing the minivan’s seats. We have an Olds Silhouette, but I imagine they are all pretty much the same. I figured it might fit if we bend it in the middle. On the other hand, it is a hassle to remove the seats, and if anyone has tried this and failed, I will just tie it to the top. I don’t like driving with big stuff on the roof though. Anyone try this before?
I moved a king matress in the back of a pick-up truck once, but you should remember that “folding” a mattress will void any sort of warrenty it has, if that’s a concern.
That being said, this does seem sort of IMHO-ie as opposed to GQ-ie, but whatever.
Yeah, I thought about IMHO, but I was looking for people who had actually tried to do it (factual), rather than guesses, which I can do on my own. And it wouldn’t be folded in half, just sort of droopy in the middle.
How far do you have to drive? Into another state, or just across town?
Just downtown. Maybe 15 miles. Some in skinny city streets though
I work in a department store and frequently have to put large things in small cars.
Eg: whole dinette set in a jeep wrangler, sheets of wafer board in a chrysler convertible, 8 foot xmas tree in an iroc camero, futon in a geo metro.
A queen mattress should be a piece of cake in a minivan. Go kinda diagonal, and fold a bit if needed.

I’ve taken king, queen, and twin mattresses on top of my Toyota Sienna van, as well as a variety of stuff on the inside. Trust me, it’s easier to just put it on top. Putting the mattress up and down is easier than taking two rows of seats out and back in. Plus it might not quite fit, and you don’t want to bend it to fit, as mentioned earlier, could damage the springs. The mattress is not heavy enough to cause a problem on the roof. Only thing is to make sure it’s tied down in the front so as not to peel up when driving.
Oh, and don’t drive into the garage, just in case you don’t have enough clearance. Learned that the hard way with a Christmas tree. :smack:
