So, today I received in the mail my Ohio Absentee Ballot, courtesy of Bush-Cheney '04, Inc. I am not able to vote in hotly contested Ohio, since I’ve already relocated and registered in hotly contested Florida. So the campaign folks love me. I received a very expensive pamphlet from the US Chamber of Commerce recently urging me to vote for Mel Martinez (in the primary), which I found odd.
Anyway, wanted to share with you Mr. Bush’s accomplishments and Mr. Kerry’s downfalls, so you can see that there really is no choice (I’ve taken the liberty of underlining my favorite portions):
President George W. Bush
Moving America Forward
Defending America in the War on Terror
[ul]
[li]Created the Department of Homeland Security, bringing government agencies together to improve intelligence gathering and prevent terrorists from entering America under false I.D.[/li][li]Signed the Patriot Act, giving law enforcement tools to hunt down terrorists.[/li]Strengthened port and border security to keep terrorists and dangerous cargo out.
[li]Today, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, and Iraq are no longer a threat to America and 2/3 of Al Qaida terrorists have been captured or killed.[/li][/ul]
Growing the Economy
[ul]
[li]Signed into law largest tax relief in U.S. History, reducing income taxes for every American.*[/li][li]Has a 6 point plan to maintain America’s economy as the strongest in the world.**[/li][li]Phased out the Death Tax so American’s don’t have their assets taxed twice.[/li][li]Increased the child tax credit to $1,000 per child and reduced the marriage penalty tax.[/li][li]Reduced taxes for small business, making it easier for them to expand and create jobs.[/li][/ul]
Providing Affordable, Accessible Healthcare
[ul]
[li]Fighting to lower healthcare costs by stopping junk lawsuits against doctors and hospitals.[/li][li]Provided Health Savings Accounts to help all Americans save tax free for their healthcare needs.[/li][/ul]
*Not quite true, some Americans are lucky enough to be so poor that they don’t have to pay any income taxes. So technically their income taxes weren’t cut.
**I’m not familiar with this but I’m sure there’s more at the website, www.GeorgeWBush.com
Of course there are two sides to every story, and the Bush-Cheney '04 folks are happy to help me fill in the blanks on Mr. Kerry as well:
John Kerry
Out of the Mainstream*
Putting Politics Before Our Troops
[ul]
[li]After voting for the war in Iraq, he voted against funding our troops in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq.[/li][li]Whilst on the Intelligence Committee, missed 38 of 49 public intelligence hearings. Yet, he still proposed slashing intelligence by $6 billion.[/li][li]Voted against funding for weapon systems vital to fighting and winning the War on Terror**.[/li][/ul]
Will Raise Your Taxes
[ul]
[li]John Kerry has voted to raise taxes 98 times.[/li][li]Voted against lowering taxes on middle class parents 18 times.[/li][li]Voted 8 times to increase taxes on seniors’ Social Security benefits.[/li][li]Even supported raising gas taxes by 50¢ a gallon.[/li][li]Opposed small business tax credits so they could purchase employee health insurance.*[/li][/ul]
Opposes Affordable Healthcare Options
[ul]
[li]Proposed a $1 trillion government-run healthcare program.[/li][li]Voted 10 times against medical liability reform that would lower the cost of healthcare.[/li][/ul]
*Note that Mr. Bush is addressed as president, but John Kerry is just some guy. I thought he’d served in Congress, but maybe I’m thinking of Bob Kerrey.
**This probably explains why the war on terror is unwinnable. It’s John Kerry’s fault.
***Brought to you by the guy who could have privatized (and possibly saved) Social Security benefits in the early part of his term, but decided to spend it all on a tax cut instead. The Republican party: borrowing against Social Security since Reagan found the loophole.
****Just an awkward sentence. It can actually be read in Kerry’s favor, “Thank goodness he opposed those small business tax credits, now I can afford to purchase employee health insurance.”
 In my state the gummint itself takes care of sending people absentee ballots. How did the Bush/Cheney folks get control of the city clerk’s offices? Oh well.
Once again I thank the good Lord above that I am not in a swing state. Unless I turn on CNN or another cable news show or watch the Sunday morning talk shows, I don’t see any of this stuff.
But thanks for the info! I for one had been living in fear and trembling that Pakistanis were going to burn my dog. Now, all I have to worry about is them starting WWIII with India. Yay!!
:smack: Not the actual absentee ballot, it’s the absentee ballot application. Not the same thing. :smack:
This whole thread is a whoosh, right, Shib? Please tell me it’s a whoosh.
Sadly, no, this is pretty much verbatim. There’s more…
KERRY HAS THE WRONG PRIORITIES…
…He opposes defining marriage as being between a man and a woman.
[ul]
[li]Voted against funding our troops in Iraq.[/li][li]Missed vote to help seniors get affordable prescription medicine.[/li][li]Voted against Lace Peterson’s Law, protecting pregnant women from violence.[/li][li]Voted against middle class tax relief.[/li][/ul]
Which begs the question: Senator Kerry, why do you hate pregnant women? Why don’t you care about the elderly? Why do you hate middle class America? Why do you want our troops to go into combat without boots or weapons?
Yep, I know what you’re talking about. I got something similar from some Democratic organization. There was their pitch for the local candidates and Kerry, a donation sheet (yeah, right), and two absentee ballot applications. My brother and I each filled one out and sent them in.
