Moving back to your hometown after college

Did any Dopers who went away for college return to the area you we raised? I don’t mean you moved back in your family, just back to the area.

My brother did. He actually didn’t complete his degree, he went into customer service, quickly worked his way up to manager, spent a few years moving around different cities for the same company, then decided he done with that crap and took a sales job back home. He was 25, and is turning 35 this year. I don’t think he regrets it at all, he’s highly motivated and moved up the ladder and became a big fish in a small pond. He prefers the small town living and the big city vacationing.

Funnily enough, I’m turning 25 this year and wouldn’t mind moving back there, but in my career it’s an impossibility.

I briefly did as I had managed to land a job in my field there. I was part of a group that got furloughed the following year (1987) and haven’t been back except to visit since.

I bought a house in the same neighborhood I grew up in, 4 years after college. That’s where I am now.

Three other people who own houses in this neighborhood also grew up in this neighborhood.

I would say that 1/4 or more of the kids in my graduating class have settled back in the same school system.
