Moving! Stress! AAAAGHHHHHHH!!

That’s right. I’m moving. I will be leaving the San Fernando Valley, where I have spent the past 18 years. I will be leaving Los Angeles for Long Beach, about 40+ miles south. Why, you may ask?

Several reasons. 1st, a bad roommate situation made it mandatory that I find a new place. That this was the 2nd roommate situation in as many years made it mandatory that I find a place on my own. That I am poor made it mandatory that I find somewhere cheap. Plus I just found out that my job is moving from LAX to Brea, and Long Beach would be much closer. (I will not discuss the fact that I could be laid off from said job at anytime, as I might break down and cry)

After an exhaustive search, I found a place in Long Beach that’s willing to take me and that I can afford. I will now have to move all my meager belongings and aquire a set of new meager belongings, like a couch. I have to go to the power company and gas company in person to get service turned on. (the previous tennent left owing some money. I will have to prove that I am not him)

I know only 2 souls in the Long Beach area. Once is our own Deb2World. The other is a co-worker. I will have to find all new stores and restaurants and hang-outs and friends to hang out with. I will have to find new NA meetings.

I will have to convince the love of my life that she can sleep safely there while I’m at work. (Long Beach has a bit of a reputation)

But I remain cautiously optimistic whilst trying not to panic and run screaming into the night.

If you knew me, you’d know that is incredible growth for me.

good luck on the move.
it can be rough to be in a new place. but you can do it, and dno’t worry about the job till you have to.
as far as the NA, can’t your old group hook you up with a new one in that area?

Good luck for the move! I’m moving too - twice in fact! I’m moving with my parents to a new house. And after I’ve been living there a week I’m moving AGAIN! As I’m starting university.

Oh, I know where the meetings are. But I have to actually go there and meet the new people and find the meetings I like again. Meeting new people is always scary for me. Opening up to them is scarier still. I’ll do it, but it’ll be uncomfortable.

Moving twice??

AAAAAGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Good luck, Spooje!
The MissTake family is also revving up for a move- follow this one:
My sister and her fiance are moving two separate households into one. I’m buying her house. My nephew is buying my condo.
Four moves, one weekend.
Luckily, I’ve only been here going on 10 months, and we downsized a LOT, so packing up this place should not be too difficult.
My sister, OTOH, has lived in her house for about 6 years and is a packrat.
Labor Day weekend will be taking on serious new meaning. I wonder if we’ll be speaking to each other after all is said and done?

We’re moving this coming weekend as well. I feel your pain. We are going from a town of ~12,000 to a close suburb of Baltimore, approximate metro population of ~1.5 million. Whee.

While the house is better by a long shot, and there is more opportunity for us there, I’m a bit concerned for my son, who has never lived in a large city.

spooje once you get settled in, call me and I will take you to the best Mexican restaurant in all of Orange/LA counties (and no one knows about it except for some locals). It makes the bestest Carne Asada, it actually tastes authentic, not that steak crap they put salt on and try to pass off as Asada.

So I take it you got that place you were talking about. Tell her it is in a decent part of Long Beach. Take her for a nice picnic across town at El Dorado Park when she visits. Then for a romantic walk along the beach in Naples. She will come to love the city.

Thanks, Deb. Some good carne asada sounds delicious.

Yeah, I put the deposit on the place I told you about. MY GF is kinda freaked about being on the ground floor. Probably just because it’s a different area. Honestly, I’ve lived in sections of the Valley that were many times more seedy, and so has she.

I’m actually excited about living there and being out of the Valley.

Scared and stressed out, but excited. You know what I mean?

You know you will have to give up those bums at Chavez Ravine now and root for a real team

Once you live nearer to the beach for a few months you will appreciate how much nicer the days are than in the Valley. Plus if you decide you need a different apartment, it will be easier to find a new one since you will know the city better.

There are a few good (cheap) furniture stores on Willow east of the 710. I got a real wood armour that the guy converted to an entertainment center for me for no extra $$ for about $750.

Isn’t there another Doper living in Long Beach, I am sure I saw him.
