My old laptop, which I got when Win 10 first came out, is working okay but with only 6 gig of memory it is getting slow. So I got a nice new one, but now have to move.
I know to move files just fine, but does anyone have experience with moving your environment - passwords, apps, settings, that kind of stuff. I don’t mind paying some reasonable amount for software. I have one possibility, but don’t want to bias any responses.
Any experience with the transfer? I have a decently large usb drive, but a wifi transfer would be easier.
Thanks in advance.
Windows might have a utility? I know there’s a decent utility for Macs. I think Windows is catching up with that kind of thing.
Although i recently upgraded from win 10 too win 11 at work, and while it was the smoothest update I’ve done, i still had to manually reset a lot of settings.
I don’t have any experience with this. I’ve used the Microsoft Easy Transfer Wizard, but that no longer works on Windows 10. Microsoft’s recommended replacement (which they apparently partnered with) is this software:
Personally, though, I’d probably follow these directions to sync my settings between different computers, and then manually re-install programs as I need them. It is a great time for a fresh start.
(I’d still bring over all of my documents, downloads, pictures, videos, etc, unless there were space issues.)
PCmover is the one I want, and I’m going to get rid of junk before the transfer. I’ve got tons of disk space available, it’s memory space that’s the issue - and that my old disk is mechanical, not SSID.
