Power company is FPL: Florida Power and Light. Can’t remember the phone company, but I have Sprint in N. Florida. Just go on the web, find the Chamber of Commerce and ask them for a relocation package… they’ll send you everything you need to know.
I lived for two years in Boca Raton, two years in Ft. Liquordale, then came to Tallahassee.
Just remember, approx. 1000 people move to Florida every day. And nobody will care how you did things up North. You will have a tan only for your first year, then you’ll forget to go the beach like the rest of us.
My biggest tip: Learn to wear 100% cotton. Synthetic fibers do not breathe, which causes you to sweat more. Go with natural fibers – stay cooler.
Well I’m in Panama City, which is a ways away, but still in Florida!

Welcome to the neighborhood! I live in Delray Beach which is about 20 mins (depending on how fast you drive) on the turnpike south of you. West Palm’s great, and in May there’s Sunfest which is a huge music and art festival. I don’t know how long that tan will last though. I’ve lived less than 5 miles from the beach all my life and sometimes I’ll go a year or more without making it out there. Good luck with your move and writing.
