Moyers - Surviving the Good Times

Actually, I don’t know what the “regular” PBS schedules are, but DirectTV showed this Sunday night, the 2nd.

Anyway, the show is following two Milwaukee families, starting in 1991, as they cope with unemployment and low employment.

I realize that condensing nine years into two hours is going to leave some gaps, but I’m wondering if any Dopers have any ideas why these two families, in such similar circumstances, with apparently the same kind of family values and work ethic, are having such different outcomes.

The Neuman family seems to be falling apart, while the Stanleys grow stronger.

Anyone see it? Am I reading more into it than was there?
