When celebrating his birth, life and works one can never stop thinking of his early tragic death at age 35. Considering the monumental works that he delivered in his final years, what could he have done if he lived longer? How interesting it would have been… after all, Beethoven’s Eroica was completed in 1804 - Mozart would have been 48 years old.
I’m not a big opera fan, but do love Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute and have a great appreciate for Mozart’s incredible output. I’m going to be listening to it all day at work, in respect.
I highly recommend the Sunday NY Times crossword… if you get the Times, it was in last Sunday, but most newspapers will have it this coming Sunday.
I played sax in high school, and one of my favorite pieces in band was an arrangement of the Overture for The Marriage of Figaro. I was playing bari at the time, and the short bassoon solo was mine! I also got to play the intro phrase, and then pulse the tonic under the main theme.
What a blast. I think that was the point when I really came to enjoy Mozart.
I never thought I would see the words “Mozart” and “bari sax” used together.
It must be a busy year for Mozart’s publishers. In May, my one orchestra is playing one of the piano concerti (#25 in C major), while the other will perform sections from the Requiem, with chorus. I feel obligated to resume the work I postponed on the violin concerto #4, despite probably never needing to perform it.
100% - dont mean to boast or anything. I ticked all the ones I recognised as Mozart then presumed the other ones were Salieri - they were!
However thanks for introducing me to the site - there is other fun stuff on there. I like the Famous or Unknown Artist - particularly when you find out who the unknown artists actually are…
