In quite possibly the most asinine, moronic move – surpassing even the brilliant dumbassery of the RIAA – the MPAA is now attempting to require anyone with a “home theatre” to pay a one-time $50 registration fee or face $500,000 fines per movie shown.
So what defines a “home theatre” you ask? The MPAA state that this high-end, state-of-the-art setup qualifies:
I think the real problem is that however far-fetched and absurd it might seem, people still wouldn’t put it past the MPAA. You could probably write an article about how the MPAA wants people to pay a tax for every day they are in possession of a movie they’ve purchased or they’ll kill a kitten for each person who doesn’t pay up and people would still likely respond with, “Man, those goons at the MPAA just don’t know when to quit.”
thank Og it’s a joke, even if it wasn’t, i’d be safe…
after all, my “home theater” consists of an Onkyo TXSV-515 Dolby Digital/DTS reciever (80 W/ch across the fronts, 50 w/ch to the rear) Infinity Sterling 2005 main speakers, Venturi center channel, Bose 100 surrounds, Onkyo 6 disc carousel changer, Panasonic DVD player, PS2 and Gamecube…
and a 20" Sony Wega Trinitron TV
there’s no “Comfy Chairs” <dramatic chord!> set up between the speakers, just my bed…
thanks to that 20" TV and no chairs, i’m safe, <Nelson Muntz> Haa Haa!</Nelson>, screw you, MPAA!!
