If his job isn’t physically demanding, he may be able to go back before COBRA runs out. If he’s an electrician of the kind who work on power lines, nope.
The transfer is such good news! It’s so exciting. Physical therapists are the greatest; I can’t say enough about what life-changers they can be. Always energetic and unfailing kind, they push you to point right before you “can’t” so you end on a triumph. Needless to say their emotional boosts works wonders, too. You’re both going to be amazed at the people who care. You’ve been amazing, too, purplehorseshoe. One of these days your all’s biggest problem is going to be who’s going to take the trash out that night. I wish you banal annoyances and fireworks highs.
D’oh. Paperwork/bureocracy snafu - trying again for a transfer tomorrow.
Would it help if I showed up with a pad of paper, and a pen? I’ll pretend to write orders…

Fingers crossed for the transfer tomorrow!

Glad to hear all of the good news **purplehorseshoe **- I might not be a regular poster to this thread, but I’ve been lurking along and rooting for the 'shoes!
Just got his text with his new room number!
YAY!
Here’s hoping for a short and productive stay at the new place.
Good news!
Yay!!!
Wow! That’s fantastic. <happy dance>
Awesome!
HURRAY!!!
Grabs carnut and starts a fast polka.
HURRAY!!!
Joins the polka, conveniently bumping Flatlined off the end of the thread
Yay!
Now…details! Is this a rehab room? What’s the deal??
-D/a
It’s a room in an inpatient physical rehabilitation facility. There’s a gym, pool for aquatic exercises, and a squadron of physical and occupational therapists. I’m a dork, so I was most impressed with the big fish tank.
There’s even a car (engine block removed, but otherwise, a normal full-size sedan) so that patents can learn how to get in and out, and their families (ahem) can learn how to help them maneuver in and out.
Not sure if he’ll be OK with me sharing this, but one more tube has been removed. The Foley catheter, the removal of which apparently makes you do something like this —> Now there only remaining tube/foreign object is just the capped-off stent in his stomach; not sure why they’re putting off taking that out. I guess they just want to deal with one at a time. He’s already had three PVR (post-void residual) tests today, all fine, so at least his bladder is OK.
But that’s all just details. The best part? The very bestest part? HE GOT TO TAKE A SHOWER TONIGHT. First one in damn near four months. They’ve been keeping him clean, but there’s no way a sponge bath or a wipe-down with antiseptic cloths can possible compare to sitting there with hot water streaming over you. (Even if it is in a shower wheelchair with a nurse hovering nearby.)
Way way cool!
Thanks for the update.
