Yay! You’re going to have to start a new thread entitled “Mr. Shoe is NOT in the hospital”!
purps, that made me cry. Seriously. I’m SO HAPPY for you guys.
I think this is a good idea, big deal = new thread!!!
congrats to the Shoes!! throwing confetti
Wonderful, fabulous news!!
Yes! Yes! YES! [with apologies to D/a ]
Do it! I think we could all use a breath of fresh air. Let’s move out of this stuffy, depressing hospital (thread) and into a new, more comfortable rehab facility (thread)!
I was sniffling and tearing up on my way home when they’d first told him he’d have a shower later on (they do it on the evening shift). I mean, I LOOOOVE camping, but I know how crabby I get after days on end with no showers. Granted, there are also no nurses giving me sponge baths, at least not where I go camping. But MONTHS on end? Pfffft!
Oh, forgot to mention, no more hospital gown either! Gets to wear his own damn clothes, and has me bring him this T-shirt, no not that one etc. ![]()
I realized that my manager asked me at the beginning of this week if he could sit on the edge of his bed himself (swing his legs around, etc) and I told her he couldn’t. And last night, I watched him do so. One week! Granted, it’s not a smooth or easy process, and he basically has to pick up his legs and move them manually, but hey!
His ability to to seat himself on the edge of his bed was, for what I hope are obvious reasons, one of the qualifications to get his urinary catheter taken out.
Purps, that spoilered bit sure sounds like a pretty damn strong incentive to me!!
It’s amazing how good a shower can be - not just for general “I feel grubby” relief but because it’s NORMAL. Ditto the clothes. I was in the hospital for a few days before my daughter was born (pregnancy complications, had to be observed) and I sure as hell brought and wore my regular clothes - made a big psychological difference!!
You need to get a recording of the Snoopy happy dance and tell Shmoopie that he has to boogie to that before he goes home :).
Oooh… here’s an inspiration (or something)… people who’ve been posting on the thread can send video clips of themselves dancing to that, and you can show it to Mr. Shoe ;).
Things just keep looking up!
Hooray!
hurrah on the shower!!! i can’t imagine all he was feeling in that shower. i’ll bet it slides into the top 10 list.
shoe, this is the best way to end a week!
I can’t tell you how happy I am right now. I hear echos of cheers all around the Dope..

No apology needed..especially when it’s about news THIS good!
-D/a
WOOT! I can’t imagine not having a shower for months…Poor Schmoopie. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
My happy dance actually bears a slight resemblance to Snoopy’s. I’ll record it for you if someone else does it first. ![]()
Anyone know anything about splicing a bunch of short clips together and adding background music? If someone wants to volunteer, we can all email that person our clips.
The music I was thinking of, BTW, is called Linus and Lucy, by the Vince Guaraldi Trio - can be purchased from Amazon for 99 cents and used as background, I think :).
Just chiming in to add my congratulations to the teeming throng. I’ve been following the thread avidly since its inception, been keeping up with the good and not so good news as it happened, but this latest is BRILLIANT, WONDERFUL and DEFINITELY WORTH SOME WIGGLY DANCING by all and sundry.
And where we might wish ‘sticky’ thoughts for pregnancy threads, may I suggest we wish unsticky thoughts when the catheter is finally removed?
Just sayin’.
All the best to you both from downunder.

Late as usual, but a shower after months of sponge baths must have felt so good.
Go TOS! You just flipping rock. And sitting up without passing out after this long. Holy Cow!!!
Grabs everyone and starts a congo line.
::: Bumps flatlined off the head of the conga line:::
The news keeps getting better and better. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
Oooooh, he’s moving around so much now that they finally discontinued his heparin (blood thinner) which was really the only “major” Rx he’s been on at this point. Yay! No more needle sticks in his tummy! (Tiny short needles, he says they don’t hurt, but they do leave a constellation of bruises. We’ve been trying to get the nurses to make a smiley face or spell something out, but so far, no go. Now, no more!)
His PEG stent is supposed to come out today. Word on the street is that’ll hurt too. I told him to ***tell ***them that hydrocodone doesn’t do jack and to go with something else (honestly, he says plain Advil does more) so we’ll see how that goes. Anyway, last tube thingy gone! Soon! I hope!
More good news! Keep it coming.
First Post but I have been reading all along. I have cried, happy danced, and had fear that he would not make it. I am so happy for you *Purps and TOS.*
