Mr. Shoe is in the hospital

All this news is fantastic. Congratulations to you both for your patience and hard work.

At this rate he’ll be home by Christmas! Keeping fingers crossed.

poink All gone! Said it hurt right when it was pulled, and then not at all after that. He pulled some muscles in his ribs over the weekend, though. :frowning:

Tomorrow there will be a meeting with his doctor, PTs, case manager etc. to discuss his upcoming care, discharge plans (!!!) outpatient treatments etc. Hopefully we’ll all have a clearer view of the future after that.

Good news! (except the muscle pull)

Thanks for the update. Hope to hear good news after tomorrow’s meeting.

+1 !!!

This is getting very exciting!

Poink goes the PEG! Love it!

Now, about those discharge plans…

TOH may be home for Christmas (fingers crossed)…

Woohoo! Sounds like things are looking up for Mr. Horseshoe! Three meals a day, showers, physical therapy, no more “institution clothes”… this place is sounding like a luxury resort in comparison to where he’s been! (Remember when being allowed to illicitly crunch on a single ice chip was a “treat”?)

Is “Shmoopie Home for the Holidays” a realistic hope? If so, I am heartily adding my most positive thoughts to the existing pile.

Keep us updated!

This is my deepest hope!

Sorry, but not until he’s safely home. Once he’s set foot over that threshold (or, uh, been wheeled over it  ) then we can talk. Until then, I won’t quite believe it.

He got a visit from some therapy dogs last night - that was fun! They kept coming around right when he was busy (potty, shower, etc.) and were just about to leave for the night. His aunt begged them to stay, and when one of them, who had a beagle, found out that Shoe’s childhood dog was a beagle, they all decided to stick around. So instead of a visit from one dog, there was a parade of about a half-dozen! A huge black German shepherd, a sweet old golden retriever, the aforementioned beagle (who knows the “Bang! You’re dead!” trick :D) a sheltie and one or two others. It was a nice surprise!

Off to find out what’s up. We were talking last night and he said himself that he’s not (physically) ready to go home yet. Mentally and emotionally, hell yes … but not physically.

Not YET.

Yay for fur therapy!!!

I need fur therapy at work. DO you think I could certify one of my dogs as a therapy dog, and say I need her around for the sake of my mental health?

OK, so tentative **final **release date is January 23rd. That’s basically a total WAG based on his stay of less than a week so far. I kinda think it might be sooner and they’re covering their butts a bit. They did say that once he’s stronger and a bit more independent that we could get “day passes” to leave for a few hours to go to the park or whatever. He’ll be starting aquatic exercises in the next day or two, and I’m sure that’ll help, too.

His bones are showing signs of osteoporosis from so much inactivity for so long, so they’re upping his calcium, vitamin B and vitamin D supplements. He’s willing to do what his PT wants, but he gets fatigued quickly.
Alrighty, that’s it from me for now. Discuss.

What wonderful news!

Forgot to mention: his doctor hung a sign on his wall:

Congratulations, Other Shoe!
You are now an official member of the Double Belly Button Club!

Well, it amused me, at least.

When he sat up last night to reach for something he said he felt a tiny fart come out of the (rapidly-closing) hole.

oh, boy, sounds like a really good place. and dogs!!

so we will wait for the new thread until you are ready. it’s all good.

Yay for therapy dogs! Seriously, unless you’re allergic or something, how could a visit from dogs not just be the best thing?

Glad to hear he has a target release date.

They cut mine out and shaped a faux one. Frankly, I’d rather they had left me with none.
