'Mr. Swirly' sentenced to three years.

Story.

The guy who swirled a photo of himself in an attempt to avoid identification has been sentenced in Thailand.

I hope he gets the full 20 years, the three years sentence barely covers his criminal stupidity for using the swirling effect on the pictures.

Photos were found online in 2004 of a man sexually abusing at least a dozen Vietnamese and Cambodian boys, some as young as six

I’m glad he’s going to jail.

Sick fuckin’ piece of shit. I personally would rather he be sentenced to other things besides prison, but that’s just my own barbaric opinion.

And good riddance to him.

Thailand has taken big steps against pedophilia in recent years, and it’s just not tolerated like it once was. Unfortunately, it being largely an image thing, it’s only foreigners who are prosecuted, with Thai pedophiles going largely unpunished. There was the case a few years ago of a local senator who got popped for dabbling with 16-year-old girls, but it was his political rivals who went after him. Other Thai males pretty much get away with it. But it’s a beginning.

I thought the thread was about an ice cream van owner getting sent to prison :smack:

That would be perfectly legal in many countries, so I don’t see that as a good example of things being particularly bad in Thailand. It’s not exactly the same thing as doing a six years old.

I bet he was an English teacher. Makes me so proud.

No doubt Mr. Swirly will be getting the swirl in prison.

I expect that we have not heard the last of this fellow, given that there may be many other victims to come forward.

That’s the only example I can think of offhand, because instances of arrests of Thais are so rare. Any farang (Westerner) who dabbles with underage children will be pounced on – Mr. Swirly’s made a mistake thinking Thailand was still the same as Cambodia and Vietnam – but Thai men will usually get away with dallying with under-16s, too. However, if the Thai male in question is making TOO big of a nuisance out of himself, the neighbors will simply kill him, often helped by the local police, since as this article in The Economist points out, Thai police are a law unto themselves. (Unless it’s a cop himself, I guess.)

This reminds me of a small racket that was going on a few years ago. There’s this one freelancer joint called the Beer Garden, in Sukhumvit Soi 7. A freelancer joint is a place where the girls don’t actually work there, but instead any girl on the game simply shows up and hangs around like any other customer. They won’t let underage girls into the place, but there was this one 16-year-old girl who would hang around outside and try to get a customer there. Maybe she said she was 18, maybe the guy didn’t care enough to ask, but when she got the guy back to his room, she’d call her cop boyfriend while he was in the shower. The cop would bust in and extort a big bribe from the john. She’s of age now, of course, and I’ve not heard of that happening around there since then.

And speaking of creepy child molesters, Gary Glitter was released from prison in Vietnam today (Tuesday). I started a thread on him here, and there’s a CNN story here.
