MrWhatsit got hired!

WOO-FREAKING-HOO!

As some of you may remember from the last time I posted about this, MrWhatsit was laid off from his job back in May, and has had a hell of a time finding work ever since. The high tech industry fell flat as a pancake, and he doesn’t have all that much experience.

Well, proving me correct in my theory that the way to get good jobs in this world is to have good connections, he was just hired by the company that employs me! They hired him on a contract basis a few months back (no benefits and not too many hours, but the pay was OK), and apparently they liked his work, because they fed him a steady stream of contract work until this week, when they finally hired him as a permanent employee! He now makes enough money to support us – I will be making some supplementary income, as I will continue to work from home for these folks – and will be able to put Whatsit Jr. on his health insurance, so I don’t have to worry about putting in a minimum number of hours per week to keep our son on my health insurance.

This is just so great that I could pass out. The one caveat (there’s always something) is that the company that gives my employers much of their work is consolidating its vendors, and that may be really good for my company in that they wind up getting the work from other smaller vendors, or it could be very bad in that their work may be given to larger vendors. If the latter happens, MrWhatsit may be laid off a few short months after he was hired. It’s unlikely, but they did tell him it was a possibility when they hired him, in the context of asking whether he wanted to be hired, considering the unstable situation at the present time. (His answer: “HELL YES I want to be hired!”)

Anyway, I think he’ll keep the job, because, well, he’s fabulously brilliant and hardworking and who wouldn’t want to employ a great guy like him? I think tomorrow I shall demand that he get us a couple of chocolate milkshakes to celebrate.

H O O R A Y !!!

That’s as festive as I can make it. Good luck to Mr. W, and congratulations. And don’t worry about any possible future layoffs. If you worry about what might be, you’ll miss appreciating what is.

Oh, and can I have a chocolate malted, too, please?
