I’m currently drafting an introductory exercise for physics students on error analysis and regression. I’m trying to persuade them not to use Excel, since we provide them with much better software for the purpose for free. However, I don’t wish to lie to them about Excel’s capabilities.
So my question is: can Excel natively perform linear regression which takes account of experimental error in individual data points? If so, how? It doesn’t seem to be covered in the documentation for LINEST(), which seems to be the closest fit.
Many thanks!
