I’m honestly not sure what you mean by this post.
We in fact don’t generally take things Trump said out of context in order to make his supporters look stupid. We take him in context to show how he actually is stupid, and how said stupidity is actually causing harm to our country. Separately, we also try to figure out why Trump gets support, and at least one reason can be a general lack of intelligence. We also, of course, will mock the intelligence of Trump supporters directly. We don’t need to be coy.
But even if this was a valid parallel, so what? That’s tu quoque. Why does how liberals act have anything to do with trying to understand the motivations of those on the right who go after this particular junior senator for the smallest of things–in this case, at worst, a misunderstanding of financial terminology that led to a gaffe?
