MS Outlook question - saving edits to an attachment

Being the edit-oholic that I am, I like to open my email attachments in Outlook for one last check before sending. At the last company I worked for I could open the attachment, edit it, and when I saved it it would save to the attachment in my email. I like this feature better than having to delete the attachment and reattach the updated document like I have to do at the new company I work for.

Is this a setting in Outlook that I can activate (I did a quick check and couldn’t find one) or is this a feature that is set up at the IT overlord level?

While there are many variables possibly involved, it’s most probably that your new Co. uses a newer version of Outlook and/or Exchange Email server.

Outlook XP and newer, puts every file you attach to an Email on the Email server (by default) and every attachment you open in the ‘OutlookSecureTempFolder’ on your PC. Editing / saving the opened, attached file doesn’t update the file on the server, which is what will be sent with the Email.

If you must point blame, it’s a MS ‘feature’.
