I’ll play it safe and ask someone about this rather than assuming I can get all the correct information just by hitting the F1 key.
I keyed in copy for cassette index cards for 62 cassettes, of various lengths, containing material I recorded off the Dr. Demento show on radio from 1988 to 1999. To save paper I wanted to set the copy up in two columns per page. However, the columns I got are narrower than the 3 3/4" width that fits just right in the cassette box.
How do I get two 3 3/4" columns per page for this file? Thaanks very much.

You seem to imply using the built-in Help will yield incorrect information? Why would you assume such a thing? I have used the built-in Help many times and it seems to work pretty well. In fact, if you look for the help on columns it is quite comprehensive. At any rate, in Word97 the formatting of columns is (surprise!) at Format/Columns.
Well, just make sure to reset your page margins (left and right), first of all, so that you’ll have 7.5 inches in the the middle of your page available for your columns. Then go Format --> Columns, and set the width of the columns to 3.75 inches.
The other thing to look at when you go into the column definitions is the spacing between columns. You can reduce this as well.
You can also do it on the top rulebar, if you’re set up to view the top rulebar. You’ll notice a gray patch in the middle of two white patches; the gray patch represents the space between your columns. Move your cursor over one edge of the gray patch until it changes into a double-headed arrow. Click and hold the left button down. Now you can drag this edge of the gray patch to the left or the right, widening or narrowing the space between your columns. This will give you real-time feedback as to how your document will look. Try it – it’s fun!

Thanx to all…I’ll try them when I’m at home…
