Does anyone know what the hell this thing is? One of my coworkers keeps getting emails from MSN’s Word of Mouth that keeps saying stuff like “Someone’s inquiring about you!” When she goes to it, the site tells here that three people are requesting information about her, and that three people are offering information about her, but she’s never signed up for the thing and has no idea what the hell is going on.
Anyone part of this site, or at least know anything about it? Is it a site like Friendster or MySpace, or is it more like the Yellow Pages, or Stalker.net?
Are you sure it’s really MSN? I’d be surprised. I get e-mails like this from various domains all the time.
It’s spam. It’s a scam. Any “entries” that are listed for your e-mail address are fake. Don’t pay to get the info they claim to provide, as you’ll never get anything from them.
Do a Google search on “wordofmouth” and you’ll find a bunch of info on this scam. And here’s Snope’s take on the subject.
It’s bogus, but I didn’t find out until after I signed up for it.
Thanks guys. We did a little searching and pretty much determined it was a scam as well. Luckily, she didn’t do anything with it other than fret a bit. Still, with all those other “Getting to know you” web sites out there, she was a little creeped out.
Thank goodness for the “Block” option, eh?
