Multi-connection usenet client?

Damn hamsters. Let’s try again.

An annoying surprize came with my new DSL provider in my new area: they cap access to their usenet server at around 15KB/s/connection.

Now, I sent a good ol’ letter off to their complaints department (part of the beauty of DSL is usenet at wire speed, after all), but I haven’t heard a word back from them. Since there’s nothing in my Terms of Service dictating that this cap is in place, I don’t feel guilty about trying to circumvent it by aquiring a newsreader that uses more than one connection to the server in the most beneficial way.

Super Gravity, what I have been using, will start a new connection for each newsgroup when you download headers for all the newsgroups, and then I get 120KB/s (close to my wire speed). But I’ll be damned if I can get it to use more than one connection when I’m downloading messages.

Help?

I use NewsPro. It’s complicated but is the only one I know of which will make multiple connections.

I like Newsbin Pro a lot for downloading binaries. Due to my ISP’s cap, I run 2 connections at the same time to maximize speed. It will download 2+ sep. files of a multi-file post at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll give them a try tonight. Anything available as freeware, though?

I use Xnews. It’s a bit quirky, but it’s free. It allows up to 4 connections by the use of what it calls “queue folders”.
