Multicolor outlines on video

I haven’t been able to find anything on this by searching Google. Recently, my computer has started having these weird rainbow “outlines” around fast moving objects in video, especially if the background is dark. As far as I can tell, the outline is mostly green and a magenta-ish color, but it’s hard to tell for sure.

It doesn’t show up in screenshots, and disappears if the video is paused. I’ve tried restarting (including hard rebooting) my computer and upgrading my display drivers.

Any ideas?

Does it also happens in games? Sounds like your monitor is busted.

What kind of monitor is it, and what sort of connection are you using (VGA, DVI, HDMI?)

Check the condition of your cables and try re-seating them at both the monitor and the computer.

I have a quite old (I’d say at least 6 years) Dell SP2309W

I played around with my monitor settings. It seems like it only happens on some presets. It hasn’t happened to me in games, but I think my monitor has some dynamic contrast it uses when it detects a game is running that might be “fixing it”.

The monitor is probably going, but at least I can stave it off for a bit by switching color modes.

If you can’t replicate it in other fast moving environments, then it might not be the monitor. I don’t really know what else it could be though.

Maybe try something as simple as waving a high contrast image back and worth on the monitor. Like a red dot on black, blue dot on black, and green dot on black.

Is it only flash videos like youtube or other formats like avi/mp4/mkv?
