I meant to post to this thread this weekend, but I decided to wait until today when more people would see it. The Message Board went out on Friday afternoon, starting here in General Questions. Ready for this? Only two multiposts! Heh. Great Debates was littered with them.
So thank you and good job. I was seriously irritated about the prospect of coming in after the board came back up to clean up a mess that was no one’s fault. The fact that what I expected to be a flood was only a little spill was really cool.
On a related note, you may notice that sometimes I leave the multiposts up. There are two reasons I do that. The first is when the post is small, so even the accumulation of them does not seriously ruin members’ ability to read the thread. The other is when someone refers to them. I don’t want that person’s comment to be left hanging, so I leave the multiposts. So out of respect for your fellow posters, please do not refer to multiposts in your own messages. Just drop me an email and I’ll see about cleaning up.
Kat, that little icon with the red arrow next to it. You can pretty much delete most of your post with it. Im not sure if you can do the whole thing. Find a post you wrote & select that icon. Its near the subject line to your right.
That’s the quoting feature, handy. All you can do is qoute yourself and edit your own (or anybody else’s) quote. It shows up as a new post. The original post remains unchanged.
I confess to having re-posted 7 huge replies in a row, in Great Debates. I really felt stupid, especially since I would ordinarily know better, except in this case I did not get any response from the server at all, so assumed it didn’t go through. Reloading did not show my posts, and I didn’t want to abandon such a long post. Anyway, my mistake.
Curiously enough, though, the moderator did not want to remove the septuple posting! The rationale was, I had already posted an apology, and someone else commented on it, and so removing the 7 posts would leave future readers puzzled. I think that’s a big mistake, especially since my mess has killed the thread. It should be easy enough to delete my multiples, post a quick explanation, and end the story. I said so to the moderator, who never got back to me. Perhaps he fixed it, I don’t know… but i never saw the thread again.
Anyway, this board could definately either use a code improvement to prevent multiple postings (it shouldn’t be hard to do), or moderators who are more willing to wield their deletion capabilities.
Um, I keep getting a 504 Gateway Time-out error whenever I post. (Lost Connection to Original Server). I expect to get it when I submit this.
I really hope this post doesn’t show up at all. If it does, consider it my deep, <i>deep</i> apology to you moderators out there. Especially in MPSIMS.
