Say I want to simultaneously run 4 powerpoint presentations on 4 projectors from one computer (standard PC).
Is it possible? What hardware & software are required?
(don’t need to ‘stitch’ them together)

I don’t think you’re going to be able to do this, unless you have a computer with 4 video cards, and even then I doubt it. You could maybe get away with 2 presentations, if you have a video card with 2 outputs, and can configure your desktops properly.
Bottom line is you’re probably going to need 4 computers.
I don’t think you can run multiple sessions of the powerpoint application; you might be able to do it with the standalone viewer, but if not, then any solution is probably going to be more complex and prone to cocking up than just throwing four PCs at the job.
There are doubtless other presentation/graphics applications that can handle lots of monitors from a single machine (equipped with multiple video interfaces) though.
How would you control it? You would been 4 keyboards and Windows doesn’t support keyboard multiplexing in that manner (ie: it treats them as 1 keyboard)
If you really wanted to do this for some reason, the best way to do it would be multiple virtual machines on different displays, with some key combination to switch keyboard/mouse input from one to the other.
But I agree that 4 computers is probably easier.
I agree with what has been said. I have a solution for 4 projectors using powerpoint (without using 4 video cards, instead using a video splitter), but not 4 different versions of powerpoint on 4 projectors.
