Mundane Pointless Dog Stuff

Oh, great feline…

Looks like a Toller (Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) and Pom cross to me. But then my mom breeds tollers.

How tall was she?

Frogger, the only 9 year old on this board.

Jebediah… or however you spell that…

Got a suggestion for you change the food you’re feeding your dog. A food from Eukanuba, or even better Science Diet or Technical is more digestible and by the time it comes out, it’s been processed so that there is nothing much good-smelling or good-tasting in the waste. Deter didn’t work on one of my mom’s breeding dogs, but when we switched them all foods it worked and they stoped poop-eating.

Frogger, surrounded by 8 dogs for all his life

A Basenji. They’re African hounds, and they’re really smart, but they can be energetic and hard to live with. I grew up with terriers, though, and people say that temperment-wise, they’re similar. The puppy we’re getting is “the least alpha of the litter” according to the breeder, so that should make things easier. Plus he’ll be small when we get him, so the cats will have a chance to get used to him (and who knows, maybe even make friends with him).

There are some cute pictures of Basenjis here.

Oooh, I’m so excited, we’re getting a dogdogdog!

Glad to find dog people here.
Our little family grew by a puppy too!
She is a German Pinscher, very smart and full of personality. She is 8 months old now and has finished her first obedience class. We are looking at starting agility classes in a few months. Anyone else out there tried this with their dogs?

aenea, I’ve thought about agility training for Jimmy because he’s smart and energetic. He needs something to challenge and exercise him. We still don’t have a fence around our backyard, but when we do, I’d like to have my husband build a dog walk and maybe a couple other simple pieces so that, if nothing else, Jimmy and my husband would have something to do together outside. Bored dogs bark and dig and chew and otherwise destroy the yard and annoy the neighbors. I don’t want Jimmy to be a bored dog (any more).

Frogger, I think you may be on to something with the Toller! Looking at these pictures, I have to agree: http://www.tiac.net/users/smcgrath/tollers/photos3.html

These are adorable puppies!

Jimmy doesn’t wag his tail right. He’s part Aussie Shep, and he has the short Aussie tail. Instead of wagging it side to side, he flops it up and down like he’s waving bye-bye. There are two other Aussie Sheps in the dog class, and they wag their tiny tails side to side. But Jimmy’s tail doesn’t go wag-wag-wag, it goes flop-flop-flop.

Except I’ve noticed that, when he’s around wagging dogs, he does sometimes move his tail side to side a little bit as well as up and down, causing it to occasionally look like it’s going around and around like a propellor.

My dog is weird.

We met him!! We met our puppy!!! He is SO CUTE!!!

We also met his littermates, and his mother and great-grandmother, and a cousin, and they’re all really nice dogs, friendly, good temperaments. We spent about 2 hours there, playing with the dogs and talking to the breeder. We gave her a deposit, and we’ll take him home in March!

Oh, he is sweet. He gave me kisses all over my face, and he chewed on my hair (all the non-dog people reading this are gagging by now, I’m sure). He likes us! We’re getting a dogdogdog!!!
