One of the best soundtrack albums in the history of everything is out of print, so I can’t check a copy to see… One of my friends said he’s been looking for a copy of the song in the movie performed by “Dr. Teeth and Electric Mayhem” in the old church. That got me thinking --was this song even on the soundtrack? (And why was this soundtrack never released on CD even with the re-releases of the movies?)
I still have that soundtrack on LP. I could make a tape for you if you’d like, just email me. I don’t know what Dr Teeth song you mean. The one when Kermit and Fozzie first enter the church, or the one when they re-paint the Studebaker and sing “Can You Picture That”?
“Can You Picture That” is on the soundtrack, and Kermit’s and Rolf’s duet in the restaurant where they sing about women is on there including a verse that didn’t make it into the film.
I too have lamented the fact that the Muppet Movie soundtrack is not out on CD. I had the old vinyl, and still find myself singing some of the songs.
I think the problem has something to do with the fact that the rights to the Muppets are owned by a different movie conglomerate than made the original movie. But that is just speculation on my part.
If the song you are referring to is “Can You Picture?” by Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, it was the first song on the second side of the album.
My solution was to download my favorites from Napster. I found “The Rainbow Connection”, “Moving Right Along” and “I Hope that Something Better Comes Along” in a matter of minutes.

Yeah, the song I was talking about was “Can You Picture That?” Was there another Dr. Teeth song in the curch when we’re first introduced to the band? I don’t remember.
I checked out the eBay listings. The second and third don’t show pictures, but the first one (the pricey one) shows what looks to be legit cover art for this album! Heck, maybe I was wrong about this never being released on CD!
But, the Muppets were already acquired by Disney in 1993 when this CD was said to be released. Why wouldn’t Disney make more CDs? There’s obviously some demand as illustrated by the eBay auctions.
Actually, Disney doesn’t own the Muppets. The Jim Henson Company does. However, the Jim Henson Company is now owned by some German company.
It’s not really a song, but Kermit and Fozzie first enter the church because they hear Dr. Teeth’s jam session. That is not on the soundtrack.
There are a gazillion copies of this available on Napster…get it while you can!
