Music for an anniversary party?

25th wedding anniversary (ours, to be specific), and we need to load up the iPods.

Dan Fogelberg’s “Longer”, and Huey Lewis and the News’ “Stuck With You” are required, of course.

What else must we have?

We will of course have other music. It wouldn’t be “us” without a full rendition of Weird Al Yankovic’s repertoire, for example.

“Anniversary” by Voltaire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT1-B-sS_Lc

Me and Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul
Let’s Stay Together - Al Green

“Memories are Made of This” by Dean Martin

“Follow” by Genesis
“In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel
"Right by Your Side " by Eurythymics
“You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago
“Endless Love” by Lionel Ritchie

I started to compile a list from this site, but this seems easier…have at it!

“Stuck In the Middle With You” - Stealers Wheels
“Faithfully” - Journey (might be too sappy tho)

“When I’m 64”

Then I’d look for songs that played when you were dating.

Might not be fully appropriate to your situation but You’re Still The One, by Shania Twain.

Excellent link - thanks! AND - when I played snippets of some of them on iTunes, one of the things that came up was a link to songs of the year 1983 with even more suggestions.

OK, maybe I’ll skip a few of them - not quite sure I want to explain Marvin Gaye’s “Sexual Healing” to the 9-and-unders who will be there

Wonderful other suggestions, guys - thanks! (erm, lieu, “Me And Mrs. Jones”? Isn’t that about someone committing adultery? )

You know, I fully expected to be able to go to Wiki or some site and show that the lyrics were just a play on emotions and words, that “Mrs. Jones” was in fact his wife and they were playing, a married couple acting as if their continued attraction for each other was almost adulterous. I thought it was just one of those songs where people usually misinterpreted the lyrics where they in fact meant the reverse. I took it to be a love song.

But all I can find now suggests you’re right! Oh man, Mama Zappa, I’m so sorry. Heh, let me amend that to “Whatever you do, don’t play Me and Mrs. Jones!”

Let’s Stay Together though, I’m still hoping you find room for it. If that one means something else I’m gonna need a therapist.

That’s what I would do…find the songs popular 25 years ago. Do you remember what song you danced to at your wedding reception for your First Dance?

Thought I’d post an update with what we wound up putting on the list:

Some of them are unusual choices, but then we’ve got an odd sense of humor

As y’all can see, we incorporated many suggestions from here. Also did some nosing about in published Imixes on Itunes, and the Weird Al song was accidentally added to the list (not sure how though) and we decided we liked it

Note - the above was posted by me, not Typo Knig :smack:

Though he was standing watching me post it, so I imagine his consent can be taken as given!
