What's a good 25th wedding anniversary song?

Me and my husband have another 2 and a half years to go but we were having a general discussion about having whether or not to have a big blowout. One of the side discussions was an ‘our song’ song. I love Champaigne’s How About Us. The chorus goes like this:

*Some people are made for each other
Some people can love one another for life
How 'bout us?

Some people can hold it together
Last through all kinds of weather
How 'bout us? *

Hubby thinks this is more like a wedding song. So we’re getting divorced over it.
Two questions–

  1. Don’t you think this is a great 25 years together song? We are ‘some people’, I say.
  2. Save our marriage! List other ‘been together for a long time’ songs. Perhaps the teeming millions can think of one me and hubs can both agree on.

Congratulations! I like the lyrics to your song, though I’ve not heard the tune.

I like Willie Nelson’s “I’ve Loved You All Over the World”
You’re my buddy, my pal, my friend
It will be that way until the end…
I’ll always follow my heart
Wherever it takes me
And until death do us part
I’ll love you all over the world

It’s not super-gooey, but I’ve seldom heard a song that talks about being friends with your spouse. To make it to 25, it seems like you must be good buddies as well as lovers.

Although it’s a bit lite rock-ish, the Indigo Girls’ “Power of Two” has great lyrics about marriage:

You know the things that I am afraid of
I’m not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
Its that we loved each other well
Cause Ive seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that fancy and fast
Ends in a fatal crash
And I’m glad we got off
To tell you the truth

Congratulations!

There are some good suggestions in this [thread=473162]thread[/thread], in which my bride asked for suggestions. Our 25th anniversary is today!

Where in the heck did the time go?

Happy, Happy!
I’ll give the thread a looksee.

“The old gray mare she ain’t what she used to be…”

I am NOT gray!

It’s a silver streak. Much more dignified.

How 'bout “Naughty Girls need Love too” or “Sexual Healing”?

::d&r::

You dig sixteen tons, and what do you get?
Another day older, and deeper in debt…

BB King’s “The Thrill is Gone”?

Congratulations, Typo!

Biggirl, you and I must have married about the same time. When was your wedding day? Ours was January 1, 1986.

All of the songs that we like are old standards or jazz standards generally. I think we’re a generation ahead of you.

I think that this link will get you to the lyrics and maybe a recording of Kenny Rankin’s “What Matters Most.” Just about anyone can like his music.

Congratulations to you!

Maybe not what you are looking for, but I love Shania Twain’s “Still the One”:

*(When I first saw you, I saw love.
And the first time you touched me, I felt love.
And after all this time, you’re still the one I love.)

Looks like we made it
Look how far we’ve come my baby
We mighta took the long way
We knew we’d get there someday

They said, “I bet they’ll never make it”
But just look at us holding on
We’re still together still going strong

(You’re still the one)
You’re still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You’re the one I want for life
(You’re still the one)
You’re still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You’re still the one I kiss good night*

Try anniversary, by Voltaire.
Anniversary

Or if you have a twisted streak, Stuck with you.
Stuck with you

Can I suggest Through the Years by Kenny Rogers.

Lyrics are here.

I was wondering what was twisted about the Huey Lewis song.

Then I followed the link.

NOT quite the same song

We have added Voltaire’s Anniversary song to our list. Of course, we’re also playing “Hurts So Good” (Mellencamp)* and Weird Al Yankovic’s “You Make Me”.

*our IRL first initials are ‘S’ and ‘M’. This did not go unnoticed by our college friends.
