Anyone recognize the “classical” piece played while the statue of the Virgin Mary comes to live to wail on the soccer fans? I believe its from a film score. I was thinking something like Magnolia, but I’m not sure that’s it.
Adagio for Strings, by Barber.
Platoon maybe?
Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” sure does make the rounds. It was in “Platoon,” “The Elephant Man,” “Lorenzo’s Oil,” and “El Norte.” It was also in the films “Amélie,” “S1m0ne,” “Kevin & Perry go Large,” and “The Scarlet Letter” (the Demi Moore version.) It was in the trailer for the film “The Messenger” (which was about Joan of Arc.) The computer game “Homeworld” uses it. It was played at the funerals of Franklin D. Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Princess Grace, and Princess Diana. David Blaine has used it as background music for his stunts. And on and on and on.
