music question Without a Trace

Cecil did not feel that my question was of general interest and suggested i post it here:
Dear Web People,
I, and a group of others too it seems, have thus far been unable to trace the name and / or author of a piece of music which can be heard playing in the old TV series “Without a Trace”.
It’s an intriguing piece of music and 8 years after airing there are still people combing the web for info, I only joined the quest 4 months ago but was surprised at the total lack of information. I have tried contacting people of the WaT crew by email but alas, not a single reply has found its way to my inbox so far.
TIA,
Mioch

Nowadays you get people lining up suitable songs, from unknown, often unsigned, bands for TV shows without the show having to even go looking. A while ago I was looking for a song, like the OP, with only a few lyrics and it took some finding. It turned out the band wasn’t really a band it was one guy who named his group some common 3 letter word, so naturally it was useless for search purposes. When I found it there was a mediocre youtube clip and info on their site that it would be on their upcoming album.

I promptly forgot all about them. And if the album tanks and the guy becomes a teacher in Queens maybe his song will inspire a thread like this in years to come. Who were those guys?

thx, sorry about that, noob is what i am

Kind of interesting though. You’d think with the availability of data that someone, somewhere would have got a hint. I’m interested because it’s so opaque.

It’s like I asked in thread about whether Karl Pilkington is real or a put on - how come, with the question being asked so much, has no-one ever been identified as a former schoolmate, workmate or neighbor of Pilkington? The absence of data is intriquing, but maybe just that’s me.

A related question is why aren’t music credits given in a TV series? Movies for the big screen always include music credits. Granted, I don’t watch a lot of TV. But was a huge House addict. It would have music from famous bands, people and never a credit.

Perhaps i should be asking for somebody to help me make contact with the sound people of WaT, anybody? If that doesn’t work I probably am going to try… writing a letter!

I don’t know about the US but in the UK, if you have the closed captioning up it will often show the song title and band. Not sure this helps you with an old WaT episode though.

Going through Mazzy Star’s complete work now, her name is in the credits for the 1st season, who knows.

know everything there’s to know about Mazzy Star, even that’s it’s a band name :o, but no dice

It’s a ripoff of Portishead.

thx! a new clue, that also could explainwhy it’s not mentioned anywhere.
Btw, just listened to about 10 Portishead tracks and couldn’t findit yet, interesting enoughband for sure but any help finding the title / album 'd be appreciated.

couldn’t find it (similar lyrics / melody) on Portishead albums “Dummy”, “Portishead” and “Third”

It’s definitely not Portishead, it’s someone copying their style.

There were a few bands that jumped on that bandwagon in the mid 90s, such as Sneaker Pimps and Morcheeba.

Trip hop with female vocals” is what I’d call the sub-genre.

ah, i thought you meant that it was a copy and that the original was made by Portishead but you were talking about style and not the specific piece, right?
Well, anything to narrow down the field is welcome !

Correct.

I tried Shazam-ing the piece, but it didn’t find a match, probably because the overlaid dialogue was throwing it off - sorry, was really hoping that would help.

Thx for the trouble, if nothing else I’m learning lots of new stuff, didn’t even know that anything like Shazam existed!

I’ve no idea how much you need but at the end when the dead girl says something (…lol) you have a few seconds of "Stay with me …"x2 where the only sound is the song.

I tried both Shazam & Soundhound and neither one came back with a match, but there’s plenty of dialogue-free music towards the end of that clip.

Here’s the lyrics as best as I can hear them:

Take what you want
No confrontation
My hands are empty
<something something> mention
A love that <more something>
Spirit burns a way to escape
So give me a reason
To live in my heart

So stay with me
Don’t let me leave
Leave the one who made me believe
So stay with me

I’ve searched for various combos of this, and can’t even come up with a match for anything.
