Music Slump

I am in a serious music slump, the new stuff I am hearing just isn’t cutting it for me anymore and I am getting tired of most of my old favorites. An suggestions.

The typical bands that I really like are ones like: Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Shine Down, Mindless Self Indulgence, Old Crow Medicine Show, Augustana, Marlin Manson,… I a pretty open to anything.

Please, a selection of your of favorites to add to my own

Well using your list to add suggestions I’ll say

Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly- Get yourself some Pogues and Tossers stuff.

Mindless Self Indulgence-Um, that’s pretty difficult. Maybe GG Allin? No, I can’t really recommend GG to anyone.

If you like Old Crow, you’d probably like Olabelle, Reeltime Travelers, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Alison Krauss + Union Station, the soundtracks to Oh Brother, Where Art Thou and Cold Mountain, and other rootsy/old timey country. I’ve seen Old Crow play live twice and they’re great. I don’t know any of the other bands you list, though!

There’s a website (I’m sure someone will know which one I’m talking about) that allows you to input who you like and they’ll offer up music that is in some way similar (vocally, musically, genre-ly…whatever). You can listen to the whole album, I think. Damn…what was that called?

Oh, another band I love is The Weary Boys, out of Austin TX. About the only way to get their stuff is to go to a show (they come to Nashville once in a while) or to go to their website. They have some free downloads, too… just google and you’ll find it.

Pandora

Ooh. Thanks, Kalhoun and Cluricaun. I had no idea that site existed.

No charge! (Thanks Clurican!)

thanks guys, Pandora is great too… I’m gonna go dance my self silly now.

Here are a couple of bands from my neck of the woods that might fit the bill: The Killing Moon, Pushing Zero. The latter has more free MP3s at their webpage as well.

Have you tried Reverend Horton Heat? (Rockabilly/punk, very good musicians.)
