Music-video show 1960s

I have vague memories of a weekly show (music) that was on like twice every Saturday; once in the AM and again later in the day on the east coast. It played all the current hits like Crimson & Clover (this was like mid-late 60s) synced to film; some shot just for the purpose and some lifted from old movies and stock footage. What we would call music videos but long before MTV came about. I can remember a couple of the videos in detail but the rest is lost in my brain somewhere.

Anyone remember the show or the name of it?

Any shot it was The Now Explosion?

It’s possible but my brain wants to put it earlier than that. Two of the videos I remember are Crimson & Clover (with a dirt bike shooting dunes) and Tears of a Clown so it is possible.

I’m just going to throw these out; maybe they’ll jog your memory:

Hootenanny - mostly folk music, cancelled and replaced by:

Shindig! - description doesn’t really mention “videos.”

Hullabaloo? I used to watch it and Shindig every week, as well as one that came on right after school, and I can’t remember the name. I saw the Monkees on it for the first time. Now I have to think.

I think the one I couldn’t remember was Where the Action Is. Could it be that? It was on at about 3:30 in Chicago, but that would have been too early to show it on the West Coast.

Lloyd Thaxton had an American Bandstand-type show in syndication for years. Part of his shtick was doing wacky production numbers, sometimes with the live dancers on the show, sometimes pre-produced. These weren’t official videos done by the artist or record company, just stuff he made up.

I remember both of those and they aren’t it but I really appreciate it.

Something in that name rings a bell.

That one by description is coming in closest. Maybe the years all blended together for me?

Possibly Where the Action Is?"

or “Happening '68?”

Man, there sure weer a lot of them. It would be interesting if they could be released on DVD. I’d love to see “current” 60s styles, not the mixed-era, badly remembered stuff from currently-produced period movies.

The ones like “Where the Action Is” I’m pretty much ruling out because I have no memory or “regulars” or a “house band” on this show; just the videos.

YouTube some of the bands from back then. A lot of the DC Productions and other stuff is posted. I enjoy hitting them now and then just to remind myself how elaborate some of our fashion was back then. Not just the bands but us people on the frool. Some of the early Soul Train clips are the best.

(Bandstand had a dress code until well after it was fashionable so not that one so much until the late 60s)
