Musical albums that made you laugh out loud.

I like the Dead Milkmen still. What is the song about Sally Jane (the lesbian, midget, left-handed, eskimo, albino)? That song still makes me laugh.

Ed’s Redeeming Qualities is still my favourite band though. They are quite funny.
“School bus let me pass it but I ran over a kid. But you can not blame me, I was drinking a large coffee with no lid. Kid got up to thank me, said he never felt better. Slight problem with his mom though, he was wearing his brand new sweater…”

“I never look for romance, I just let it sneak upon me. If all I wanted was in your pants, I would have stole your laundry…”

“What started out an omelet, wound up as scrambled eggs. The next day I tried over easy and still made scrambled eggs. I tried to make you coffee, but I wound up making dregs. I tried to make you love me, but I just made scrambled eggs.”

“…I punch nuns, I punch nuns, I believe in Jesus Christ but I punch nuns…”

“…If I leave it behind me it’s left, but that don’t make it right…”

“It was the third of July and the weather was fun. Ed brought the hotdogs, croquet set was mine. But the red ballwas missing, three mallets were bent, Ed suggested lawn darts so the game was commenced. We searched by the yard cane, we searched by the grill, but we couldn’t find lawn darts over water or hill. So we talked to the sales clerk but she started to cry. She said they’re off the shelf and she told us why. A kid was pegged in the head with the lawn darts. Her dad didn’t see her, that’s the worst part. She was pegged in the head with the lawn darts, so they’re now off the shelf at the K-Mart.”

There are so many other good songs by them.

D.A.A.S.. aka the Doug Anthony All-stars is a terribly funny and sometime offensive Australian band. Unfortunately, their CD’s are near impossible to find in the US.

Moxy Fruvous is a hilarious and remarkably talented Canadian folk band. They’re very liberal and some of their songs are very political. Their “cover” of Green Egg and Ham is a hoot. Also, their sendup of Rush Linbaugh gets me every time.

Another vote for the Offspring. In fact I’m listening to Original Prankster right now.

My two picks:

Pork Soda - Primus: The music alone is enough to bring a smile to my face. The lyrics are the icing on the cake.

Joe’s Garage - Frank Zappa: Check out “Stick it Out”, “Dong Work for Yuda”, and “Catholic Girls” for some good, crude fun. Also contains the beautiful (really!) instrumental, “Watermelon in Easter Hay”.

Gwar is the name. They are notorious for squirting fake blood and semen on the audience like a bizarre Gallgher spoof. Their music sucks, but BOY they can put on a show.

I believe “Don’t Eat Yellow Snow” is on Frank Zappa’s APOSTROPHE album.

off the top of my head:

Crispin Hellion Glover “Big Problem” (this is one truly demented man, his version of “These Boots Were Made For Walking” is definative)
Scott Baio “Scott Baio” (this boy should have never been allowed anywhere near a music studio)
John Travolta “Can’t Let You Go” (just wrong)
Cafe Creme “Cafe Creme” (a 70’s Beatles cover band from Montreal, the fake audience applause during these phonetically executed medleys is just surreal)
Golden Throats 1&2 (great collections of hard to find singles, an inspiration)
Dayglo Abortons “Feed Us A Fetus” (hilarious punk)
Spinal Tap “This Is Spinal Tap” (hilarious rock)

Maybe I’ll peruse the old vinyl collection and try to hunt down more gems…
