Musician Ike Willis (noted Zappa collaborator) has died

If you are a Frank Zappa fan, you probably know Ike Willis. His distinctive lead vocals were a central feature of Zappa’s rock bands in the 80s and 90s, and he was always reliable on stage for saying things that would make Frank crack up.

I had an intense Zappa phase in my youth, and Ike’s voice will always remind me of that.

R.I.P Ike

Always loved his voice.

Damn, time to queue up Joes Garage & Thing-Fish.
@Loach, didn’t you used to have “The Central Scrutinizer” as your title?

The man could make “Why does it hurt when I pee?” sound great.

Never heard of him.

Then why are you posting in this thread? There are approximately 8 billion people I’ve never heard of, and I therefore don’t post about them.

Please do not threadshit.

It was a joke, which should be obvious to anyone posting in this thread. My username comes from an album he was featured prominently on. See Muldoonthief’s post three posts up.

Was someone actually dumb enough to report that post?! Seriously, how fucking stupid can you get? It’s as if someone named Stairway_To_Heaven claimed never to have heard of Led Zeppelin.

I have to admit I was that person, and I got totally whooshed and didn’t notice your connection to Zappa by your user name. I apologize and hang my head in shame.

You are forgiven, go forth and sin no more.

Amen.

Whereas I also didn’t know of the connection, and am only “a poster in this thread” by virtue of responding to the flag.

But it sounds like we’re all square now? No hard feelings?

Yeah, all good. Sorry I was pissy, it’s been a bad day.

Yay, equilibrium restored!

Here’s Ike performing Outside Now with The Band From Utopia, a tribute band made up of Zappa alums (warning: decidedly NSFW lyrics).

I had never heard Ike play a guitar solo before, and he does a great job here (starting roughly 1:25).

You weren’t the only one. Not having been a Zappa fan, I was unaware of the connection, as well.
