Musicians: What are you playing New Year's Eve?

I don’t usually have any jobs NYE – it’s the time of year when things are insanely competitive, and I was lucky (sort of, it was still a bizarre night to have a paying job) to get something via a friend of a friend on Christmas eve, because “I” (I book generally, which means take care of contacts and get calls, so I guess I get the credit, although everything’s shared equally among two or three players) don’t promote, because there is no set group, just a probable likelihood that if the pay is good enough, I can convince some of my best boys to show up (and give me a ride, hello, guitar player with a new cargo van, I’d rather pay you twenty or forty bucks and give you some home-baked croissants as a gift than grab a cab).

Just thinking in my head about stuff like “Auld Lang Syne” – I faintly remember Dr. John did a kind of odd version of it on one of his HomeSpun tapes. Anyway, not playing myself, and I don’t like going out on NYE in general, much less if I’m not getting paid, so I’m going to catsit the weekend for my sister while she, her husband, and my nephew are at the coast.

What are doper-musicians’ thoughts on this time of year for jobs and what are you all doing? I’ll still probably try to get some cool arrangements for SP of old chestnuts like “ALS” on my nephews little schroeder piano, but not doing anything. You?

My oldest music buddy’s new band scored the NYE gig at the SF Hard Rock - hard to do better other than a rich-dude private party.

I had a helluva year and will be home playing some mellow songs on a couple of acoustics I got this year.

and of course, Auld Lang Syne at midnight.
My bluegrass band Dimestore String Band is playin’ a suburban Chicago club, and I’m glad to have a New Year’s gig. (Miss Kitty’s in Naperville, if any local Dopers feel like showin’ up.)
Plugged in banjo from 10:30-2:30. I use a Boss ME50 pedal board for flanging, phasing, and an occasional wah wah.
Have a happy and safe one, y’all
David

We sang a *Te Deum *in the parish church yesterday afternoon to see out the old year.

In the studio - just finished a tracking session. Actually doing comps and mixing tonight, at double rate (label deadline/mgr f*ed up) Did a couple holiday parties this week and a bigger show at one of the clubs downtown on Wed with my jazz/fusion outfit.

The only difference we did is a little homage to Auld Lang Syne for a couple choruses inside of a medley we do (Mercy Mercy Mercy --> The Chicken --> Ronnie’s Bonnie)
