Must Have Software/Cool Things for Palm Smart Phone

A couple saturdays ago, my lovely wife comes home from the mall with a present for me. Thinking it’s underwear or socks or some other caring yet boring present I reach into the box and pull out a Palm Treo 650 smartphone. Rock!

So, I’ve used it as a phone, to receive email, do instant messaging, loaded it up with files on an SD card and played MP3s, I’ve even re-encoded some MPEG porn to a resolution it likes and have played those files (you know to impress my friends). This device is absolutely brilliant. I’m now working on ripping a DVD to it.

General Questions:
What am I missing? What kick-ass software must I get? What cool things can this puppy do that I’ve missed?

Specifics:
Are there any free alternatives to an IM client like VeriChat? Kinoma or MMPlayer?

And before anyone points me to treocentral.com, I know all about it. I just wanted to see if any dopers were enjoying a device like this as much as I am.

Congrats on the purchase. I have a Treo 600 and can’t live without it.

My most frequently used software are:
[ul]
[li]AvantGo (off-line web browser, but can sync over the wireless network)[/li][li]Password manager for keeping track of all web site passwords. I use Secret!, but I think there must be better ones.[/li][li]DateBk5, which replaces the calendar app.[/li][/ul]

This list may be outdated though, I’ve been using Palm-compatible PDAs for years but haven’t picked up much new software in the past year or so. And your Treo is far more advanced than (and, I believe, not even compatible with) the model I have.

Launcher X. app launcher
Snapper. email
Datebk5. organizer. the best. loved it on my pilot 1000 back in the day.
documents to go. too expensive, but very slick if you need it
pssh. if you can use an ssh client, it’s soooo cool to do from your phone. if you don’t know what ssh is, this isn’t for you.
calc. (did this come with it? don’t know.)
city time. world clock
Progect. free project management software
FileZ. File manager
upIRC. Irc client.
Coconut Fern Connect Four. the game
ykConc. Concentration game with kanji characters.
PacDude. Pacman

For work-related stuff, Agendus – contacts, notes, appointments, everything in one package and on steroids. Kicks the snot out of Palm’s included stuff.

I also use Shadowplan for basic planning/scheduling (do task A, then B1, B2, and B3, then C), though the newest version of Agendus has a similar feature.

And the Splashwallet suite is pretty good. I mostly got it for SplashID, to track paswords and sensitive ID information, but SplashPhoto and SplashShopper aren’t bad as well.

BUBBLE WRAP!

Cool. Looks like I’ve got some downloading to do.

pssh coupled with a vpn client sounds perfect for checking in on a few work servers when I can’t get to my PC. Actually, Bill H., I think you answered some questions on 64 bit compiling on one of those servers many months ago.

I use pocket quicken. And a lot of games. And (geek thing) a unix chmod calculator.
