I have two different colored eyes (one brown-green and one blue) and I’m wondering which chromosome this mutation occurred. Also, is it a point mutation?
Any other extra information would be appreciated (such as genotypes, coding in DNA, any extra scientific things regarding dna mutation for two different phenotypes in the eyes)
There are many possible causes of having differently colored eyes, and not all of them are genetic at all. Furthermore, bodily traits that are genetic are not always, indeed, not usually, traceable to a single gene. Most involve interaction between several genes, which may well be on different chromosomes. If you want to know about the causes of having eyes of different colors, look here: Heterochromia iridum.
These are very different, and much more serious, issues than having eyes of different colors. Are you saying you blind in one eye?
It may be a coincidence, but one would need a lot more information to tell. Ask your doctor. I suppose early cataract treatment might have led to some form of acquired heterochromia iridum.
By equilibrium, do you mean balance? Having a blind eye should not affect your balance. Actually, that is more likely to be connected with your hearing problems, as the balance organs are connected with the ears.
Yes, I have one blind eye. This is because doctors, when I was a month old, removed the lens from my right eye due to the cataract infecting my lens too much. The case sounds, in my opinion, foggy. But to this day I have no lens in my right eye and that caused my blindness.
My family’s dominant eye color is blue. It just so happens that my right eye is brown-green (which must be a mutation of our family’s rare green and brown eye color.
So my blindness just might be the cause of my hearing? That’s nice to hear! I am finally getting some scientific info about myself.
Having had a lens removed should not, in itself, cause blindness. Normally, these days the natural lens is replaced by a plastic lens. I myself have had both natural lenses removed (as an adult) and can see well enough, though I need glasses.
I can’t say for sure, but it seems much more likely to have been caused by your early cataract surgery, or by whatever is now causing your blindness, than by anything genetic.
You know that they were different before you were one month old, and had the cataract? How do you know that?
I did not say that at all! I said your blindness is probably unconnected with your balance problems, but your hearing problems might be connected with the balance problems. You should get your ears checked out.
The doctors told my dad about my different colored eyes once I was born.
Ohh, okay, my hearing problems might be connected to balance issues…
Well, I’m partially blind in my right eye. Objects perceived through my right eye have no lines or shadows (severe blurriness) and colors are often different (blues may appear purple, ect.)
Sorry if I confused you! Is there anything I didn’t clear up?
The color difference between your two eyes may be due to the lack of a lens. Eye lenses are slightly yellow (or, sometimes, more than slightly) and filter out some of the UV. Lack of a lens means that eye is getting more wavelengths from the blue end of the spectrum than your eye with a lens, and you may be perceiving some of the near UV. Hence, some blues look purple through that eye because you’re seeing wavelengths with it your other eye can’t see, as the lens blocks them.
