No direct experience here, but if you’re in an even mildly winter climate the longjohns sound like a winner.
Sounds weird, but check out silk longjohns. Lands End, etc. carry them. They’re really light and wouldn’t (ahem!) bunch under your muumuu and you could still use them in real life. They’re great under jeans, etc.; so light you don’t even know you’re wearing them, but warm as can be. They also “breathe” so you don’t feel like a sausage stuffed into a plastic casing.
