I have tried Wal-Mart, Zellers, The Bay, Tip Top, Mexx, Fairweathers, Winners, and a few others and cannot find dress pants for a 12 year old male. His graduation from elementary school to junior high is Thursday.
There’s a Children’s Place on Carling Ave. The chain sells both boy’s dress pants and school uniforms, up to “pre-teen” sizes.
There’s also Growing Kids on Riverside Dr., which is a specialty store for “Special Occasions”, and also has school uniforms.
Boomerang Kids Consignment might be worth a try, too. Dress pants are often a great find at a consignment store, since kids don’t wear them often before outgrowing them.
How about Canadian Tire? I thought they sold everything. Seriously, though, if you can’t find dress pants, just get the dressiest pants (i.e., not blue jeans) you can find in a decent department store. It’s a grade school graduation; no one is going to notice or care.
Good Google-fu. Thank you very much. Sears is on Carling Ave. too. Maybe we should make the journey. Consignment is a great idea, but of course my son would probably fight me like a rabid weasel if I was to suggest it.
There are no “dressiest pants.” I’m not kidding. Everything is blue jeans and khaki cargo pants. Sign of the times, I guess.
I’m surprised Tip Top didn’t have anything for a young adolescent. I’m sure I got a pair of pants from there when I was about that age, but maybe I was taller than the kid in question.
I think dress clothes are falling out of fashion very quickly, and that anything that is slow moving or takes up floor space (especially in this economy) is not going to be part of a store’s inventory.
Doubly so for kids’ dress clothes apparently. It looks like we may need to find a specialty store like WhyNot suggested.
But if you want to try them on in store you have to find a jcrew that carries the Crew Cuts kids stuff, which is not all of them. Also it’s pretty expensive.
