I am in! I hope I don’t embarrass myself!
OK, I got 7 entries from the following Dopers:

Gangster Octopus (ineligble for the prize)
Interrobang
Munch
Spurious George
watsonwil
You can check out the picks and standings at

(yes, it is up)
Also, there has been a supplement to the grand prize! Thanks to a Doper who wishes to remain anonymous, the winner will get his or her choice of one of the following movie posters: Harry Potter 3, CatWoman, or Troy. This is addition to the $25 Best Buy gift card.
Good luck everyone!
I just saw the trailer for “Catwoman”. I think I’ve already lost.
Spurious George takes the early lead.
I horribly overshot Troy… didn’t realize it was an ‘R’ … or at least, that’s my excuse. Oh well. The contest goes off the overall summer total, so maybe I can still win…
No it doesn’t. It goes off the absolute deviation of each movie. For instance, for Movie A and Movie B, I make the following picks (A: 100, B: 50) and you make (A:75, B:75).
The results are A: 80, B: 70. Your score would be 10, mine would be 50. All the totals are 150, but the absolute deviations are (20, 30) and (5, 5) for me and you, respectively.
You know what? I should’ve realized that.
Darn. I guess I’m out of the running.
There is still plenty of time left guys, don’t give up the ghost yet! I should be able to update the webpage and standings tonight when I get home from work.
Okay, I just keep sinking further and further behind… good thing I’m not a Hollywood producer.
I think I may take the lead after Harry Potter this weekend, but it’s all downhill from there. I made the same mistake I made last year - not considering if the non-blockbusters look good at all (see: Munch’s picks for Stepford Wives, Catwoman and Dodgeball). Although Dodgeball looks hilarious, it won’t do nearly as well as I predict. Though summer usually surprises in terms of revunue, doesn’t it? (Also, I think my I,Robot number may pick up some ground.)
C’mon, post the Harry Potter data! I think I did good for a change!
Check out the standings through week 4. Spurious George is in the lead, with myself and Munch in close pursuit. CandidGamera you are in 5th place.
Geez, given the lack of advertising and lack of buzz for Dodgeball that I’ve observed, I think I better hit every showing this weekend…
I can’t turn on the TV without seeing a commercial.
Yeah, I’ve seen the trailer or commercial easily 10 times. Maybe it’s because I am so painfully un-amused that I notice it so often. There is a major Ben Stiller backlash brewing, and it’s not just in my heart.
Dodgeball results? Anyone? Bueller?
Hmm, the fields of boxoffice reporting lie fallow. Perhaps **Gangster **has gone on vacation or somethin’.
But, an update: Dodgeball grossed $30.1 million. (Candid Gamera got it nearly on the nose!)
That brings the scores to:
CandidGamera 110.8
Deadly Accurate 141.2
drm 156.3
Gangster Octopus 89.4
Interrobang 119.7
Munch 113.2
Spurious George 73.0
watsonwil 115.5
and Spider-Man 2, which was measured as a 5-day weekend, pulled in $152,411,751 over its first 5 days, bringing the scores to:
CandidGamera 143.2
Deadly Accurate 206.5
drm 215.3
Gangster Octopus 100.3
Interrobang 176.4
Munch 121.7
Spurious George 85.4
watsonwil 154.3
Short version: I’m still winning.
