I have a Aiwa AV-D58, with 5 speakers attached to it via Red/Black bare speaker cable. The inputs are digital coaxial from my computer, and digital optical from my DVD player.
For the last couple of weeks, it has been having this problem where either the left or right front speaker would be much quieter than the others. I have tried swapping the speakers, and the same thing happens, so I know that none of the speakers are bad. It happens with both inputs, so I know that the problem itself has to be with the receiver, rather than the sources. Yes, I have checked the left/right balance settings. The strangest thing about this is that sometimes it is the left speaker, and sometimes it is the right speaker, and I’ve had the quiet speaker swap right in the middle of a show.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this before?
I’ve had something similar, though not identical (it was consistently through one channel only), happen to a Sony Receiver. The fault was apparently in the main circuit board and it was more economic to replace the receiver.
Hmm, well I have had the receiver for 6 years (and even then bought it second hand). What is the average lifetime on these? I can deal with it until I’m ready to buy a new one, but its ESPECIALLY annoying when watching 2 channel movies, since it means getting everything out of one speaker (and whether it comes from the left or right depends on its mood).
I left the receiver unplugged for about 5 days, and then when I started using it again, all 5 speakers were working fine, but by the time I got to the end of the movie, both the left and right speakers gradually become quieter again.
Looks like I can’t get a new receiver for less than $200 so I guess I’m just gonna have to deal a while longer.
