My blue USB ports stopped working

My blue USB ports stopped working last week. Nothing new on my machine, no update or anything. The strange thing is that my black ones (USB 2.0?) does work, while my blue ones (USB 3.0?) suddenly does not.

I have a feeling that this must be a software problem, since both my front and back ports suddenly died. I assume they are not connected. I have a USB error message in Device Manager, but i dont know what it means.

“Unknown USB device - Device descriptor request failed”

Any ideas?

Could be hardware failure on the motherboard, if (for instance) they share a common intwrnal root hub.

Also could be a driver issue. Have you done any updates lately?

I have also seen temporary USB failures caused by having things plugged in that tried to pull too much current. So if there’s anything plugged into any of the plugs, unplug them and power cycle the computer.

Thank you

No is noting like that, i pulled everything out of the blue ports (and tested them after) and there are no other devices.

BUT interestingly, i just tried to insert my Mobile phone cable, and. strangely it still charges power - it just dont recognize any devices :frowning:

It seems like any device i put into the blue usb ports signals with that little green light that it is connected, and the windows sound comes… Hmm

Are these colors standardized? Never heard of that before.

But they very well be part of the same port and if one dies they all do. Look for anything that may have gotten into the port, especially if it is conductive.

Kinda, sorta.

Colors seem to be common for some speeds but manufacturers still do their own thing.

To the OP:

  • Click on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen.
  • Type “device manager”
  • Click on the icon that appears
  • Let us know if anything in the window that appears has a colored icon next to it (usually yellow or red)
