My BP is running 185/160 - how scared should I be?

Here’s the bad news

  • I am about 80 lbs overweight

  • I lead a very sedentary life

  • My father died of a stroke in his late 40’s after doctors were ever unable to truly control his BP
    The good news

  • I am 37

  • I am considering a lapband (weight loss surgery)

  • I don’t smoke, or drink
My doc had me start doubling up on my meds and we have gotten it down to about 148/110. My blood pressure issues started with my first pregnancy at age 30.

Should I be freaking out?

You should be talking to your doctor, and not expecting to get worthwhile medical information by giving strangers a ridiculously tiny slice of your medical history.

It’s definitely a cause for concern, but not panic, since it does seem to be responding a bit to treatment.

There also are probably better BP options now than in your father’s time.

Something that has the potential to be life threatening should not be discussed on a message board.

Call your doctor.
