My 14 y.o. daughter and her friends are huge fans of Sweeney Todd–both the movie and the musical. She has been busy burning copies of the original cast recording for her friends.
Now she’s on to her next obsession–Fiddler on the Roof. She wants to get the OCR cd. I told her my dad had it on vinyl…he played it non stop when I was a child. I told her if she starts listening to that all the time…I’ll surely start singing along.
This must be her way of rebelling—because I like all things rock and roll.
Broadway is teh awesome. If you would prefer something with more of a rock kind of feel to it you should introduce her to RENT.
Broadway performers made great role models for young people. You don’t hear about many of them getting their heads blown off or dying of overdoses. Performers soon discover that you cannot do eight shows a week if you are on drugs. All theatre contracts have a clause that if they even suspect you are on drugs, your ass is in the street.

Oh–she’s already a major Rent head…that came before Sweeney Todd.
If you asked my 20 year old who her favorite singer is she’d answer Julie Andrews! I think I remember her saying it was a bit of a coup when she located an OCR of Camelot. And my son sings Sweeney Todd while walking down the street. Wicked is another great score.
Fiddler was my dad’s fave as well. I still know all of those tunes by heart!
