My browsers won't load suddenly

Done a little research here at work, but have had no luck in finding much help.

The other day ago I got my spiffy new router up and running for my work laptop. Everything was fine between it and home computer. Network copacetic, yadda, yadda.

Fast forward a few days. Last night, I shut off my home computer for updates, then turned it back on this morning.

Presto. No working browsers, either Firefox, which is my primary browser, or IE, which is secondary. I’m betting it’s the router, but I’m not about to make any changes to anything without a little coaching or additional education.

Suggestions from those who know a heck of a lot more about computers than I do?

Whdn you say not working, what exactly do you mean?

It won’t open at all? Does it open but won’t connect to the Internet?

Are you getting to the Internet at all?

Go to Start -> Network -> Network and Sharing Center (at top)

Your access should be local and Internet

What’s your O/S and what version are your browsers.

Since you say it stopped working after updating, the updates you loaded may have somehow been corrupted or not downloaded or intstalled corrrectly

The first step is to do a system restore. Do you have a system restore point to where the computer was working.

If not, I would remove the updates you installed

Start -> Type “Windows Update” (no quotes)

View Update History (on left side)

This will give you your history. At the top it tells you how to remove updates.

Remove the ones you installed and see if it works. If it works fine, then make a restore point, then redownload all your updates and try again.

Not sure of Op location, but there has a major Net service issue for around the last 24-36 hours in central OK and northern Texas. I think it is finally taken care for the most part - but speedtest.net and pingtest.net both were failing miserably (time-outs galore) more often than not, blah, blah… Everywhere in town could not use credit card terminals or such, but ATM’s worked, thankfully. Internet traffic report showed a few servers dead in Texas where my data goes, afaik.

It may be an issue of the outside network, and only saying this as I had a hell of a time even getting in touch since last night with ISP (CableONE) to verify if it was them or on my side of router. It was on outside for me. After wife cleared all of her computers/router settings, I( enoyed resetting everything properly (not!)

If OP isn’t getting a somewhat functional browser to even show/load on screen, then this does not apply obviously. Just sayin’…

The geographic coordinates in the OP’s profile put her in Indiana.
