My Buddy toy

Alright. Seems everytime I start a thread, its because my boyfriend tells me something and I doubt it. So heres the question.

You know that old toy that was in the eighties called My Buddy?

Then came Kid Sister?

Well my boyfriend claims that there was a third installment called…Little Cricket. I don’t know if thats the correct spelling. I tried searching for Little Cricket, Lil Cricket, Little Kricket…etc…and nothing.

Somebody help??

Or is my boyfriend full of it again?

No Cricket doll according to this retro site.

Heeey my brother had one of those!

I don’t remember a Cricket either… unless he’s confusing it with something else.

There was a talking doll called “Cricket”, but it wasn’t in the same line as “My Buddy”. Kinda like Teddy Ruxpin, the Cricket doll could move her mouth and eyes in time with special cassettes. Search the web, you can find pictures.

I don’t remember a third doll, only My Buddy and Kid Sister. I’m only posting to say that at the time he owned one, my little brother looked exactly like the My Buddy doll. We didn’t realize it at the time. Any home movies with that thing in it are extremely creepy.

Cricket was made by Playmates.
My sister has one, but it doesn’t work anymore.

Here’s a few pics.

My friend had Cricket! We used to put Guns N Roses tapes in her. Man, could she sing.

My Buddy, My buddy,
My Buddy, My buddy,
Whereever i go, he goes!
My Buddy, My buddy,
My Buddy, My buddy,
My buddy and meeeee!!!

Damn, Tars Tarkas, I was going to write exactly the same thing (only I think it’s "Wherever I go, heee’s gonna go!). I sing the “Kid Sister” song with my sister all the time. Real annoying. I remember Cricket, too. My friends and I used to put random tapes in her, too, but it was more like Barbie than GnR, so I guess it didn;t even make that uch of a difference.
Does anyone know where I could get one of these dolls today? I’d love to use it in a movie, maybe record something nasty for the lil tyke to say.

ACK! I always thought Cricket was really creepy!

My son looked just like My Buddy! Never heard of Cricket.

Thanks for all your help! I was right about there not being a third installment. He confused the Cricket doll with them.
Special thanks to gonzoron for posting a link to the picture. I googled for some but all I kept finding were sites where doll collectors were posting their wants.

The key was googling for “playmates cricket” (this produced some rather unsavory results so I added “doll” as well.)

I only remembered it was playmates because at the time, I couldn’t fathom how the same company made something as cool as ninja turtles and as lame (and creepy) as cricket. I always wanted to rip the rubber face off and reveal the metal skull underneath, but I don’t know if that was the engineer in me, or the big brother in me, or if I just watched too much V: The Series.

[hijack] My brother received a Little Buddy at the same time that I received a Cabbage Patch Kid (our birthdays are 13 days apart). He was very distressed that it wasn’t anatomically correct, so my mother sewed a little penis that she attached to My Buddy.

Eventually, it fell off and it used to resurface in our toy box from time to time–“Oh look, there’s Buddy’s penis!” It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but I suspect my brother still has it somewhere.

Just thought I’d share  [/hijack]

Hi, here’s a My Buddy commercial you guys might appreciate:

The commerical probably seeped into your brain. It was pretty creepy, with her marching and singing (and a disclaimer that she didn’t really move her limbs). I wonder if I can find it…

I used to have a Buddy doll when I was a little kid. Loved it. This one time my older brothers let me watch Chucky. Mom was not happy when she found that out (at 3am).

Well, there was that ill-fated Good Guys line…

Somebody should edit the title to include “Earworm Alert”. Christ, this is never getting out of my head.
