Your cat is declawed… you don’t let her outside do you?!?

Yup, I let her outside. I’ve had declawed cats for pretty much my entire life, and they’ve always been allowed outside. I’ve yet to have a problem.
And I thought the cat we once had who’d lick your bare toes was weird. Stand next to her bare-footed and the next thing you knew, you’d feel that warm, wet, scratchy tongue just a slurpin’ away.

Enid licks hands and arms, not feet. Given her temperament (fluffy little muffin to Jaws in a cat suit in 0.5 seconds), I think she may be tenderizing.

If she is declawed she is probably spayed as well. All the vet will do to see if she has been fixed is shave her tummy and look for a scar. She does still need to go and have vaccines. If this is her first vet visit you should have her AIDS and Leukemia tested as well. She should not be allowed contact with other cats.
Declawed cats should not be allowed outside. No one ever has a problem…until they have a problem. And then it can be too late to do anything about it.
Athena – I’d consider blankie-hauling charming behavior, not possessed. Very cute.
Rick and Mick do nothing that could be considered cute. Rick tips over the bathroom trash can, finds used Q-tips and hides them under the rug.
Mick fetches crunched-up cigarette packs.
That’s it. The whole shebang.
Maybe Teddy just wants to help. Help what, I dunno. But it’s cute.
I have to admit, I’m of the “let the cats live a little” frame of mind rather than the “protect them at all costs” frame of mind. They’re miserable when they can’t get outside. Yes, it’s taking a risk… but I take much more of a risk with my own health and wellbeing everytime I get on my motorcycle (not to mention the car!)
I know there’s a whole slew of people out there that are going to tell me I’m awful for this, but hey, we each have our own philosophies. I (gasp) smack the cats when they get up on the counters and don’t get down when I yell at 'em, too. Put me in jail, I’m an animal abuser. I can tell how miserable they are the way they run to me for cuddling and petting the instant I come home from work.
Well to tell you the truth, as a vet tech, I don’t agree with your beliefs. Here’s to hoping your cats never have an accident. (I don’t smack my cats either).
